| Headed up to the Big V saturday, will be staying at VDL and I can not wait. Any body been fishing for monsters lately? Were you finding fish in weeds or on the rocks? I have my own spots, but what I would like to know is if you guys have got on any good patterns or presentations lately. Thanks for the replies and good luck fishing this summer. Tim Pinks | |||

Posts: 6 | I just got back. That lake is ridiculous with pressure. On a normal Milk Run 75% of the spots I fish had a muskie boat on it. There were probaby more muskie fishermen than walleye/smallies etc. That lake was way more crowded than I expected. I do not want to sound like sour grapes but that will be the last time I go on "vacation" there. Between the jet skis, pontoons, tubers skiers etc, it reminded me of an "up north" Tonka.......

Posts: 96 Location: Eden Prairie, Mn. | Troops I fished the East side of the Big V this past sunday the 25th. I got out before sunrise and had the WHOLE lake to myself until about 10am, except for some wally guys - Strange ?? I felt at any moment a dozen boats would converge on any structure I intended to fish, it never happened. I saw only a handful of musky anglers for the remaining day, I got off the water around 3pm. I could have fished any 'usually pounded spot' all day. Go figure ?? The weather was mixed sun & clouds in the am and a nice musky chop - the clouds went away by 11am but the breeze stayed allowing great controlled drifts around structure. Score : MUSKY 1 - Mother 0 however, I had 5 follows - 1 over 50+ " a $#%&*@&%* railroad tie in 4 ft. of water near rock- nice clue huh !! 4 - 40" class fish - mixed depths of 5-15 ft. on the edges of deepwater/shallow rock stucture 1 - mid 30" fish, shallow rock/rubble And finally a bonus fish - I caught a HUGE FAT 28-30 in. Wally, working musky structure on a Firetiger Phantom !! in 8-16ft. water. In fact I moved all my fish on the Phantom. I threw 2 colors of hair, a jackpot, a topraider, 2 colors of depthraiders, 6 & 8 in. Reef Hogs and a Bulldawg. Nothing - Throw the Phantom for five minutes - BOOM - a follow but, no biters ! The night bite would have been one for the record books if all these got hungry. Mother PS - The wally was released, a quick twist with the pliers and she swam away, never touched or out of the water. God I love crimped barbs !!!!

| Thanks for the replies guys. Just got back this weekend and had a great trip. Yeah the word is out, and fishing pressure is higher then I have seen in the past. Lots of muskie guys pounding the water, one night we had eight boats in a small weedy bay fishing at sunset, reminded me of Shabbonna. But hey thats what I'm use to fishing so I didn't let that stop me. Went up with six guys and one of the guys sons. Total for the trip nine fish between the group with the largest being a 49" which I caught on tuesday the 27th it is my new personal best by one inch. Most fish came from some type of spinnerbait. I hope that a major cold front pushes in the day of this hundred thousand dollar tournament or this lake will surely be overfished in a matter of no time. | |||

Posts: 260 Location: Kentucky | I fished the big V on July 10 -17th, and had nearly all spots to myself. I didn't see more than 2 or 3 boats the entire week fishing for ski's.And really, there are so many good spots on that lake, there's no reason to share spots with other people!!

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | Gee, I must've been on a different lake last week. We were up there (for the 5th year) through the last week of July and I didn't feel a bit pressured anywhere. Oh sure, there were a few spots that had a couple of boats hanging out but good grief!...there's a lot of water there and a lot of undiscovered hiding haunts for musky and pike. The 4 of us ended up with over 200 bass caught and released and easily over 250 pike of various sizes caught and released. We caught a fat 29" pike , a girthy 37" pike and 2 spectacular 40" pike to end the week. Great to spend one morning with Ace again. He's a great guy and very in tune with both ends of the lake. Musky action was slow for us too. What a vacation though!!! Posts: 96 Location: Eden Prairie, Mn. | Pinks Were you on the COOK side ? sounds like you were. Much heavier pressure - easy fishing compared to the Beast of the East side- with its prop eating granite, vast open water(BIG waves) and more structure to fish your head wants to explode. No waiting anywhere at nite on prime spots - few brave the their lower units, carry a spare TM prop when in a chop or at nite. Not many wanna be's in "pretty boats" fish at nite or get in the granite tight. I've dashed my LUND many times on the rocks, lost lures on razor granite, Best- one cast and gone Manta prayed for quicker trim. So far so good Mother ps- You can always troll too !!
