Posts: 544 Location: Alsip, Il | I just got back from LOW late Saturday, my little group of four got 5 muskies for the week with the largest being only 38 inches. Now, the walleye fishing was fantastic and smallmouth was good. We were catching them muskie fishing and not even trying for them. The biggest was a 27 incher around 6.5 pounds on my Marv's spinnerbaits. The resort we stay at caters alot to what I call penny loafer fisherman, corporations providing managers of sales people with bonus of three of four days fishing there. There was one group that went through 200 dozen nightcrawlers in three days, estimate catch for 10 to 12 people was around 750 walleyes. We did get some bonus pike up to 40 inches. The resort owners said it was two weeks behind. Do you think we were fishing post-spawn, I didn't get any bigger fish to follow until the end of the week. They were low and slower followers. I shouldn't cry sour grapes, but this is the first year since 1992, that my boat didn't boat a musky forty inches or bigger, and we did catch fish but not the desired species. Probally will be the only trip north of the Illinois border or Silver Lake in Kenosha, Wi. Just venting and whining, Al

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Our water temps on the Goon were yo-yo all week with swings as much as 10 degrees. We found the muskies, no problem, but had a tough time getting them to really eat the stupid lure. Walleyes were great, as were BIG Pike.

| I was on LOTW From the 12th to the 16th. Wife and I managed to catch 9 fish with the largest (two of them)at 39-1/2. All the others were right around 30 inches. Fish were in transition from spawning areas to main lake, so we fished saddles, bays..anything that was close to spawning areas, but toward main lake. Found the best fishing close to a channel that lead to the main portion of Sabaskong bay. All fish hit bucktails in 3 - 6 feet of water and all but one of them came between 3:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon. So...I am interested as to why the majority of the fish were active only at this time. Water temps really warmed up through the trip. Started out at 67 - 69 depending on where we were fishing. By the end of the trip, the same areas were reaching 77. Had one northern that hit hard and fought short, and simply flipped over in the warm water. Could not get her going again. Ended up leaving it for the eagles which was a major disappointment. Overall, a good trip though. We struggled with Walleyes but we did not go out and fish the main lake. We stayed to the south and managed a few, brought home 3. But do I wish I was still there fishing Skis!! Steve | |||
