I am thinking Redfin Pickerel. Here are a link to info on them that I found: http://floridafisheries.com/Fishes/pickerels.html

He came out of an Itasca county, MN lake (where I do most of my fishing) so I doubt it's redfin or chain but I've never seen quasi-vertical-stripes like that on a northern before.

It's a Northern pike. Coloration variables are common from white to yellow or even brown, and the markings match a juvenile n Pike perfectly.

Is this little guy just a plain ol' northern ? Umm Hmm.
No black or dark by eye. Cute lil bugger tho. Give him a vitamin and put him back.

I forgot somthing.. Do you even have Pickerel that far north? Seems I remember it being a warmer water fish.

I think you're right - I don't think pickerel are this far north. Yes, he did get a vitamin [minnow] and released. Thanks for the clarification everyone.

I fish the same area and have seen a few like this. Its only the small ones so they must get the spots as they get larger.
