Posts: 23 Location: Stewartville, MN | I am going to Leech Lake father's day weekend to fish muskie for the first time and I am looking for advise. I have beeen stockpiling equipment the past few years looking to get into muskie fishing. I have lots of lures and 4 rods and reels. I would like some advise as to how and set up rod/reel combos and what to use with which lures with each. I will be fishing around Pine Point Reels: Shimano Calcutta 400 Shimano Corsair CS 400A Abu Garcia 6000C Abu Garcia 5000C Rods Shimano Compre CO60XHB (1-5oz) Shimano Compre CO70HB (1/2 - 3 oz) Abu Garcia C30661MH (3/8 - 1+1/2oz) 7 foot flipping stick (1/4- 1 oz)

Posts: 3926 | Your question is requires such a broad and deep response that most will shy away. Asking for too much info. Maybe a leech lake guy on the board will provide some specifics. If you're serious, hire a giude within the first couple days on the lake.

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | So much with rod/reel combos relies on personal taste. Try each rod and reel together until you find the 'right' feel for you, whcih is "This feels good, this is right!" Leech early in the year can be tough but surface and glide baits plus a Suick or two and bucktails in between should cover the spectrum. There is no 'number 1' bait, really. One angler will swaer by a glider while another swears by a spinnerbait. Make sure you feel confident, and the lure is workable with the rod, and the rest is LOCATION. Put the lure in front of the fish, and eventually it will happen.

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | Read this post... "If you had one muskie lure to throw the rest of your life what would it be? (ADD Color and Make)" Lots of best baits in the world there. You can see how diverse the opinions are from one angler to another. Buy some stuff and have a blast.

Location: Athens, Ohio | My suggestion would be, if this is your first time, hire a muskie guide! MURPH! on this board is an excellent Leech guide, Steve Cady fishes up that way too, and there is a whole guide association around Leech who can accomodate you. You can get an entire day of advice and answers to your questions, plus get to fish in some high-percentage spots. Good luck and welcome to MuskieFirst. m
