| If someone gave you 8 trillion dollors and was told you had to spend all of it on building the Ultimate muskie lake, how would you build it. Where would you build it, and with what kind of structure, weeds, strains, rocks, trees, depths, water color, bait fish and other game fish.
You can build it anywhere, US and Canada and it can be as big as you want it.
If you had all the control and funds in the world to build this, How would you like it?[] |

| I would connect eagle lake to oneside of LOTW, and Rowan to the other so we'd have three trout waters, including Whitefish, on the woods. I would then put all of the propeaters five foot down so screaming from spot to spot would not be an issue. Finally I would put in two or three dozen on the water gas boats that worked on an on call basis. The lake would be called MuskyDan's lake, and all catch and release fisherman would have access. The lake would have beer stations/lodges that were all part of the same resort so at the days end you go to the nearest lodge to shack, gas, and eat up. Others would do the same, like a little musky commune. It would be great!
Structure wouldn't change accept maybe more cabbage, and easier to find productive rock spots. The Lake would have all the strains, meaning, great lakes fish, northern muskies, and hybrids(naturally only). The rest of the money would be spent on lures, lines, leaders, and russian ladies to keep me busy in winter.

| I guess I would take all that money and make the existing WISCONSIN waters better for everyone!Hire credable people and do several studies on many different waters and EXTENSIVE stocking with higher LIMITS!Make this state the PLACE TO FISH!Might really happen someday!HERES HOP`IN!!!!Jeff |

| Well, LOTW is about as close as you can come to the ultimate muskie lake. The only problem with it is its location. Just not real convenient to most mid-western musky hunters.
Size is nice to distribute fishing pressure, but not necessary, so I'd make a smaller PRIVATE lake first. Probably shape it like two stars connected by one arm. One "star" would be a deep, clear trout water and the other would be a shallow, weedy, stained flowage type system. The star shape would gaurantee you always have the "right" wind direction. The shallower fingers would all funnel to ONE basin too. Obviously there would be a nice mix of "classic" structures strategically located throughout the lake. Once the lake is under construction, I'd donate some cash to do research on the various "strains" and species of muskies to determine WHICH one's I'd stock the lake with for optimal growth rates. Then I'd hire a biologist to make sure there is always a good balance of baitfish for them to feast on. Geez, while we are at it, I'd purchase a boatload of transmitters to periodically fix to some of the big girls to better understand the daily and seasonal movements of the fish. That way, when I can't find them... ya just turn on the locator and see how far off you've been. That would sure be humbling.
Oh yeah, I'd invest some of the cash to ensure a life-time of income to keep my operation going. Plus, I'd need the extra cash to either keep the wife happy or make alimony and child-support payments with.

| If I could build a muskie lake it would definitely fall into the "trout water" category. First of all, the lake would be about the size of Eagle Lake (around 60,000 acres). Second, the water would be ultra clear, with visibility down to 30 feet. The maximum depth of the lake would be around 200 feet with an average depth of about 40 feet. The lake would be primarily composed of boulders, rubble, and gravel (with a few sand patches with weeds for good measure). The best part of the lake would have to be the abundance of mid-lake structure. There would be hundreds of mid-lake rockbars, each different in its own right. The lake would be separated into two identical basins by a 10-mile long section of narrows, creating a river-like environment. As for baitfish, I would have cisco, tullibees, whitefish, herring, and smaller lake, rainbow, and brown trout. Whichever strain of muskie is in Georgian Bay (great lakes, I think) would go into my lake. The size limit would be 54" and the only lake access would be from my house on the shores of the lake. I would call it Lake Paradise.

| They built it already,in Dryden, Ontario.[:0] |

| I like the suggestions so far. The only thing I would add is that there would only be one accessible landing. Owned by me, that would be located right next door to the strip joint/bait & tackle shop /bar, that I would also own (it would be the only one in the area).

| Trout waters???? You guys just like to look at em or you wanna catch em too?
My lake would have oh, 20,000 acres, max depth of 25 feet, would be up close to lake superior(keep that water cool enough for the shallow bite all summer) stained water, lots of islands and reefs of all kinds and bars of all kinds, including stump bars, hey and lets leave a bunch of standing timber in some areas for eagle nests and the like...
Weeds of all types in some secluded back bays but out on the rock and stump bars you find some nice patches of cabbage, smaller type.
We would of course need quite a few "secret bars" and a couple of big flat bars to occupy the dufuses who can't go out on their own. And lets have a few tricky passages between islands to strip the lower units off idiot drivers.
Leech and Wisconsin strain both in here please with natural crossbreeding going on.
Forage, suckers, pan fish, bull heads, carp,
and lets import some oily type of shallow forage similar to shad that can survive the northern climate. Oh and of course the requisite ducks, chipmunks, squirrels, muskrats and the occassional dangling hand.
Deadfalls all left in place, no cabins.
Hmm lets have about 1 good musky lie per 5 acres, that will be about 4000 spots, and hey, lets have the population structured so that usually it takes a fish of at least 36 inches to hold a spot, many times bigger but never smaller in those 4000 spots. Oh and lets have spawning always end about 2 weeks before season opens. Surface bite starts at the end of June and goes through mid october.
Burning bucktails the choice presentation for July and August. Fish of course hit big jerks until freezeup. Oh and the best spots often hold 2 or 3 muskies so it is not unusual to double on 30 pounders in just a few casts, when they are going.

| I agree a closer LOTW, but I could move I supose. My wife hates it up there. So when I'm ready to get ride of her I'll be moving to Canada. LOL |

| Ok... I have been think about this one for a while.. So here is what I would do..
The lake would be very very long... From Dryden to the Kentucky boarder.
Depths to vary with some parts deep enough to have a great Salmon fishing too.
The lake would be in a "S" all the way down every mile so you would not get killed on a NW wind.
Lots of good structure rocks, weeds, points, inside turns everything you would want on a body of water.
Baitfish could vary from Fresh water whitefish up in Canada to Allweves in the middle and Gizzard shad in the south.
Of course walleyes, smallmouth, largemouth,Lake trout, chinnook Salmon, Brown Trout, Rainbows, crappies and bluegills would be present too.. But NO Carp or other rough fish.
You could fish all year long and keep moving in you boat up and down the system.. With a buffet of fish to choose from and certain times of the year.
Great free lodging everywhere with all the extras too. Including free gas.
All the muskies would be Great lakes strain.

| It would be a medium sized lake with an irregular shoreline with points, bays, inlets, outlets and islands. It would have shallow flats, midlake humps, underwater points, rocks and weeds of different types. No cribs, trees(except deadfalls and beaver chews) or eurasion millfoil. It would have good spawning habitat. It would also have the means to grow very, very large panfish such as perch, crappie and bluegill. It would not be a cisco lake because I don't want to fish that deep, after all it's my fantasy lake. It would be somewhat clear but not overly so and have springs that keep the lake temps below 75 degrees. It would have the means to grow big fish and plenty of them. It would be undeveloped except for my house and the only road near it is my driveway. |

| You guys hash out the details and when you are done put it in the west mpls suburbs and put my house on it. Tonka is not a bad alternative but the guys buying 3 million dollar houses and tearing em down for the lot are putting houses on the water WAY out of my reach................ |

| Jason, mother nature has all ready created it.
Its long 400 miles, unpressured but educated and yes a foreign language.
One more thing, the prettiest girls on this side of the planet!

|
| But a more cost affective measure would be to stock tons of shad and shinners and add to the bait fish populations in Wisconsin waters. Then just raise the size limit to 52".
Now wouldn't that be a hoot, |

| FLASHBACK FRIDAY![] |
|
| |
|
| I'd just wait for all of you to spend your money on your lakes, then buy them all from you. Saves me time and I get tons of water to fish. [] [:p] |
|
| |
|
| This is too easy.
2,000 acre lake with just one house on it........mine! [:p]
On one end is a floating bouy attached to a chain. Upon pulling the chain a large drain plug comes out of the bottom of the lake and all water is removed through a screen that lets out most of the bait by no skies. All the water is removed except for the deepest hole of 200 acres.
When the water level is at its lowest a nice concrete boat ramp appears with a concrete drive up to my house.
I wait three days and go fish! [:0]

| I'd build it on private property that I own. I might even let some of the Muskiefirst guys fish it for a small fee.[] |

| Jason,
Just wondering if you or Dan could book me a trip when you get these lakes finished. But if I was you I'd at least charge for the beer at the lake, this gang could even break you in a tab that we could run up!!
