I am looking at putting a water pressure gauge on my 97' Merq 200 EFI....since they are known for not having a very good stream out the squirter.

My question is: Does someone make a gauge that is not subject to the water in the line freezing when operating in freezing air temps?

I don't have a problem with winterizing a gauge line, but the last month of my fishing season can have below freezing air temps before the lakes freeze. I am that crazy and fish in it.

Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing that heat-taping the line is out? I've heard of folks putting a drain spigot on the line near the guage so water can be drained, but have no idea how you would operate it while underway. Maybe the best thing would be to insulate the line from air temps, if the water is liquid going in it could retain that nearly-freezing level without icing up. good luck with this one, m

Joe- There are several options including using a industrial type pressure sensor and a gauge (+$300-$800) depending on the pressure and complexity.

Simplest solution is a pressure switch mounted directly on the engine, i.e., LED is illuminated until pressure reaches xx pressure in PSI. There are several ways it could work.

1. Anytime the engine ignition is on and the engine is either not running or the pressure drops below say 4 PSI the switch is closed and the LED is "On" - meaning warning low water pressure.

2. Another way is more failsafe- i.e., the LED is on only when the pressure is above 4 PSI.

3. Even better yet you could have two indicators a green & a red.

Either way its ~ $70.00. You just need to find out the needed pressure setting in PSI. Either way a switch w/ 1/4 NPTM fitting and including LED's with the switch factory set at 4 PSI would be ~ $70

The LED's could be mounted in your dash or on a small panel.

I don't think the guage uses actual water, like the speedo. There has to be a pressure transducer on the engine, and the guage is connected to that, and 12V power. I will check into it tonight. No need to worry about freezing, as you won't be running a water tube to the dash.

Send me your serial number, and I will look it up.
