Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | FRIDAY: May 7th CRAZY weather!!! Storms, wind, hail, then calm, then crazy rain again, etc…. Water temps in the low 60’s. Got up to 65 during the day. Starting fishing the shallow weed flats with the STC Glider on top and switching to a Jackpot from time to time. Starting moving fish on the northwest side of Webster, and lost one on the STC Glider. Fish came from about 7 feet of water with weeds. The STC Glider was black with white belly. Moved to the east side of the lake, Echo Bay and surrounding areas. Caught 2 and lost another, all on the STC Glider, without the weight again. Fish were not monsters by any means, but still fish in the boat is better than no fish. After the rain, the sun came out and the fishing slowed down. Saw a few others, but none willing to eat. Final numbers for Friday: Action from 16 fish. Caught 2, lost 2. Out of the 16 other follows, 7 actually blew up on the bait but missed it. Boated a 34 and a 32 SATURDAY: May 8th Had the pleasure with sharing the boat with “B.A.” and “Jumbo” also known as the Stud Brothers from Chicago. Both of my clients were fairly new to musky fishing, but had no troubles locating the fish. Water temps again the low to mid 60’s in the morning. Starting out throwing Jackpots and STC on top with ZERO action. Bright blue bird sky morning, instead of the rain and very cloudy conditions from the day before. Switched to throwing smaller twitch baits like the S.S. Shad, Shallow Invaders, and Super Shad Raps. Fish were active, but not active enough to eat. Clouds and wind stayed away for the most part and the bright blue bird skies kept some of the fish from eating. On the shallow flats off of Yellowbanks, we moved 90% of our fish there. Water temps were rising to around 67-68 during the after noon. The weeds on Yellowbanks are perfect for running your lures around and on top of without getting into them. Things starting to slow down, then “Jumbo” got 2 follows from mid 30 inch fish. Then it happened……. All I heard was, “I’ve got a follow” I look down to see the LARGEST musky I have ever seen on Indiana waters. It followed in a Super Shad Rap, 6 feet of water, small weed pockets, off of Yellowbanks. The fish was simply HUGE, 50+ for sure. She didn’t eat, but I was happy just to see her!!! Went back after here about 1.5 hours later. I had on a shad Wabull, and she came out again. This time actually snaking behind the lure, totally turning her body and mouth open. I thought it was gonna happen, then she bolted. Sucks!!! Later on that after noon the “Stud Brothers” were done. 77 degrees out, and they fished hard. I dropped them off, and went out again by myself. I raised a few other fish, but no takers. At 8:00 I was throwing my Jackpot. Surface temps were 68, perfect for Jackpot. I saw the fish wake up behind the lure, but would not eat. As she came to the boat, I lowered the Jackpot into the water and started figure 8’ing the fish, on the 7 time around, she finally hit. I waited for her to turn, then I slammed the hooks. She made about a 10 yard run, then straight up body totally out of the water, mouth completely open. The Jackpot came flying out. Sucks! This fish was about 45 inches and would have been a great way to end the day. This fish also came from the shallow flats off of Yellowbanks. Total for Saturday: 28 fish to the boat, 1 MONSTER, lost 2, SUNDAY: May 9th Fished with my brother Steve. Water temps started off around 65 in the morning. Can you guess where we went first?? Yellowbanks!!! Steve had a follow from a mid 30’s second cast of the morning, then another on the 5th cast of the morning! I kept the boat again in 4-8 feet, and around the weeds. Fish were EVERYWHERE!! We beat Yellowbanks to death, and got 2 fish fish. Steve landed a shortie, and I got one just a tad bigger at 31. Sunday they were loving glide baits. I saw all my fish on Wabull’s and Steve had most of his action on Phantoms. By the after noon water temps were as high as 72. Moved a few fish of off the small islands on just outside of Echo Bay, moved fish on the shallow flats just outside of Governors, moved fish on Yellowbanks, again shallow flats with weeds. Nothing new for Indiana fishing. I dropped off my brother and went back out for about another hour, 8 more follows, now eaters. I decided to call it a day around 7:00 and started towards the boat ramp. Then I did something that I learned from my brothers. Troll the channel back to the boat ramp, especially the tunnel. About a hundred yards into the channel, I was trolling a white bucktail with white trailer grub. The rod when off, a nice 35. After I released that I made my way towards the tube, about 10 feet outside of the tube, just as my boat is entering the tube, the rod goes off again and another fish is on. I try to fight the fish, and reel it in, but I am now in the tube and have to keep going straight through the tube. The fish came off, Oh well. Total for the day: 38 fish to the boat, boated 3, lost 2 others. Summery: YELLOWBANKS, YELLOWBANKS, YELLOWBANKS! Stay in 4-8 feet of water, find the weeds and beat it to death as the fish are there. Glide baits, twitch baits and Top waters are working well. White belly top waters, but brighter colored jerk and twitch baits. Peach, oranges, yellows, ect…Water temps starting out in the mid 60’s and reaching around 70 during the day. Visibility has really improved over the past 2 weeks with the new weeds. I could see down 8 feet in spots. This will all change soon with the increased boat traffic, and the weed kill. Saw 82 fish, lost 6 and boated 5. Pretty crazy weekend. I would love to be out there next weekend, but with the PMTT in Shelbyville, I won’t be able to make it. Whoever did that scheduling really messed up!!! See you on the water,

Posts: 561 Location: Monee, Illinois | Fished today with Guide Chris Walker on Webster and Mike you are right. We lost 3 fish and had over 50 follows. YES 50!!! We stopped couting after 30 and that was before the noon siren. A lot of BIG fish follows. We started the morning in Echo bay and then worked the flats then the Island. We had a 50+ follow there. Just couldnt get them to strike but they sure wanted to follow. Yes glide baits and SS Shad worked well. Hope this helps. Bob
