| out yesterday on Petenwell in central WI. big thunderstorms all the night before made for cold water (51 deg) and unsettled conditions. added up to not moving a fish all morning. around 11 you could feel a warm front pushing through with rising air temp and humidity, along with the breeze dropping off. my brother-in-law Tim caught and released this 44" beauty around noon while twitching his brand new shallow raider in 15 fow tight to the shore just down stream from a creek inlet. the water coming out of the creek was freezing cold from the rain runoff - getting readings around 40 degrees! we were pre-fishing for next weekend's petenwell tourney...sure could use her again next saturday! Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | gee, wonder where that is. LOL Where is the camper that should be in the background? | ||

| lol. i know the camper of which you speak. (who doesn't?) and you shoreline analysis is a bit off... good effort, you put the dart on the board, just didn't hit the bullseye. | |||

| ha! i'm thinking it's actually ME that's the lucky charm for my brother-in-law. the last three times he's been out have all been with me, and he's 3-for-3 with a 46", 30", and 44". meanwhile, i'm 0-for... -m | |||

See ya this weekend!!! We'll be in my dads winner boat with the suzuki. Drop by and say hi!! we'll be out there with you, dodging walleye rigs. Edited by Reef Hawg 5/14/2004 10:16 AM

| lol. again...on the board, but sadly getting further away from the bullseye. we were actually _down_river from said white camper eyesore. this is fun, it's kinda like the scavenger hunts. | |||

| jason...lol. i couldn't even convince you in person. he caught it south of there, on the east side of the river, right before it opens up into the lake. near about where the first channel marker is set up. my partner pulled one 27" first thing on saturday, but that was it for us. looks like you guys didn't make the board this year either, eh? did you see anything? we mostly worked the river, with a couple hours over by the elbow on sunday. | |||

| You mentioned that you are fishing the Wisconsin river how far from Lake Wisconsin is that I'm going up that way Friday 05-21. I would like to fish that river | |||

| the stretch we're talking about is between Nekoosa and Necedah - the Petenwell Flowage. the northern most couple miles is river, the north end of the lake is traditional flowage, the south end is more lake-like. it's in the top 4 lakes in the state, size-wise. glance at a map and it's hard to miss. if you trace your way north on a map, follow I90/94 until they split at Tomah, it's just east of there. roughly 2 1/2 hours from Madison, WI to the northernmost section. | |||

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Lambeau, yup, dad and I looked at the area while we worked it and guessed it was it. It is just not very near a creek mouth that is all(I know the area is named a creek but no flow there). We raised a couple, and dad lost a nice one with minutes to go not far from where tourney was won. Handy and i went back on monday and he got a 43"er that was quite beefy. Would have been worth some cash on the weekend, oh well. See you on the water. Edited by Reef Hawg 5/25/2004 10:52 AM
