Subject: Burt Tuning questions

Hi Folks,
Just bought a beautiful white pearl Burt on Ebay and i'm beginning to see why it was for sale. This is my 3rd Burt and all have been tricky to tune to run straight on the jerk, but this one seems impossible. Is that something any of you have run into with this bait?
Thanks

Well, since you have 3 burts and they are not working for you then you can afford this experiment. I am assuming you have tried different leaders, poles and adjusted the front eye etc. Anyhow, take one of them and drill a couple of holes in it, I drill mine in the bottom. Fill it about half to 3/4 full of kitchen oil(wesson, corn oil, whatever you have). Epoxy shut the holes. It makes it a bit heavier, I also do it on other plastic baits. I think you'll be impressed with the action and hopefully gets it running true.

I have run into that problem with a few of my Burt's, there are recommendations on how to fix this problem on the package that they come in, check that and see how that works. A little thing I like to do is to put shrink tubing on the front hook and split ring , this keeps the hook from hooking up on the nose of the bait. When these baits are running good they are deadly and I have had great success with them up here on LOTW.

You may want to check the bait to see if it is leaking. I saw one that leaked and it would not run at all. If it is leaking fill it with expanding foam or send it back.

I am with Bill on this one. I HATE burts that run straight, or suicks that run straight. You don't want that perfect stright down and straight up, in my opinion.

Also are you "sweeping" the lure to one side. To get burts to run correctly all you need to do is slightly tap your rod tip straight down about a foot. This short tap with a few quick turns on the reel will get the burt to do all sorts of stuff.

You can also just reel them in, and add a tap or two in there.

Don't worry that it isn't running "perfect". Just throw it!

Thanks to all for the help, I've been practicing in my test pool (pond) and got a nice little action out of it after tuning a bit and adding just a bit of weight to the center hook.
Love this forum!
