Last year cancer stopped me from being on the water for the first time ever in over 34 years. This year I have a brand new job that I have to be at today.
How did all of you do?

I still pretty much feel like I was run over by Shady, so I won't get out on the water until tomorrow if at all for the opener. The REAL opener up here comes in three weeks. Muskies!!

Lake St Clair doesn't open until the first Sat in June for us here in Michigan, inland is open however. We gave it 8 hard hours of casting and some trolling today in 45-50 degrees with a light rain for one stinkin' Follow. I hope it is that good next time out

L. Redstone in Sauk Co, WI...

one 30" in the net, 3 hits at boatside, and 6 other follows - including one that followed my spinner through the figure-8 twice. not a bad way to break in the new boat on opening day!
all were up in the shallow bays in 2-5' of water, water temp 53, with a couple spots as high as 56 up in the northern finger bays. also, all except 1 fish showed up during a 45 minute window between 6:45pm and 7:30pm as the sun was dropping behind the trees...hmmm...

we'll see what tomorrow brings!

Steve, I hope your new job lets you get out and fish. Steve, I hope you feel better soon.

We got out today, not in wisconsin, got a 40,40,39 and lost two all in the rain. Had one miss a glider right when we got on the water as well.

It sounds as if I should be bumming a ride with some of you!
Our MI Chapter had our annual day and a half outing with the Quad County MI Chapter. Only 9 legals were caught with the biggest being 39". All nine were caught by the Milwaukee Chapter. We have a cook out on Saturday night, and a traveling trophy for the outing which is presented after 1:00 PM on Sunday.

How did the rest of you do this weekend?

Outstanding walleye action in Vilas county (ski season not open yet). My son and I managed limits both days, with countless others released. The fish were still heavy into the spawn and it made for some real easy pickings. The only drawback was fighting 20mph winds and temps that dropped into the 20's overnite. My hands still haven't thawed out, but the taste of fresh fillets tomorrow night will more than make up for that. The first fish of the year on Sat. morning was, of all things, a beautifully marked 33" hybrid ski--go figure--I guess when the season opens I'll have to consider using a 1/16 oz. jig and fathead for my first lure choice! Might be a little tricky casting it with the Abu and 80 Tuff line though.

I got a 38" and lost two others and saw 10 in total... It was fun to be on my old home waters again and see Koepp and Sankey and the boys!. The weather...could have been better, but I was muskie fishing. Something I wont be able to do for another month up here.

Sanks got a 35" and 34 with me and Koepp got a 37". Its always fun catch muskies with friends in the boat.

9 muskies came into my boat this weekend.

Saturday was 38.5, 35 and 30-inch for me and 37.5 and 37-inch for my brother Greg.

Sunday was 40.5, 37 and 33.5-inch for me and a mid thirtys for Mark Sankey.

Muskies are still spawning, a friend got a 38 and the eggs were dripping. Most of the fish were beat up from the spawn.

I will post a pictures thread when I can. Dead tired now.........

Out with the boys on Sat, I blanked, we raised on 50" class fish, and had one other chasing our meat, but couldn't get a hook in it. I did however get 1 lure out of a 25' tree for my partner, 2 off of docks for my other partner, and 10 backlashes out between the 2 of them. That is what I call fun!!!!! I love heckling rookies.

Sunday we popped 2 pike, and snagged a carp, and Little Tuffy buffed a hookset on a mid 40 class fish. Looks like he was taking lessons for me. We will get that sucker next time.

It was good to be on the water, and Ohhhhhh am I out of casting shape.

Also saw a truck drive into the water on Silver on Sunday. lol We just heard a, crash, scrape, grind, splash!!!!
That dude was not tooo happy. I think that the exhaust spewing into the water turned the fish on. The water was another 3 degrees warmer after that. lol

My buddy brad and I hit the water at 4:45 (first boat on, imagine that) and we fished till about 7:30 till when we went to pick up Lisa(my fiancee) up at the dock. I think at this point Brad had landed one on a Banjo minnow type plastic ( was calling it the BUNG_HOLE MINNOW) and had another hit while I tried hard not to hook a low 30 inch fish that ate my manta at the boat...I succeeded. Lisa gets in the boat and puts on this cool looking perch crankbait she bought this winter called the Polish Perch (shes half Polish). We pull out from the launch and start fishing right away. I tell her that bait tends to dive down deep into the weeds so be careful. First cast and about 5 cranks later she says...I got one...brad and I look over and her rod is bent over. I say, your probably in those shallow weeds....she says no I got one...just as both Brad and I notice her rod tip start to pulsate. Brad yells "NO WAY!" and proceeded to say no way for the next 5 minutes.....I jump and grab the net as Lisa fights in her first muskie! A scrappy, spawned-scared 35.5 incher!

Rest of the morning till 11:30 when we had to leave, I managed to keep the hooks out of 3 other muskies and Brad caught 2 more I think on that d*mn plastic minnow and lost one or two as well. Was a little chilly but made for a nice day!

Fun was had by all!

Cory

I had three follows on Saturday on the north end of Lake Waubesa on spinnerbaits. Then we had motor troubles so I didnt get back out the rest of the weekend.

Read the Musky Hunter article by Joe Bucher about not using a leader with a spinnerbait. Almost immediately got my brand new slopmaster bit off. One bass the rest of the day. Think Joe wanted to sell more Slopmasters?

Bait did go through the weeds well... Back to Gander I go...

Walleye fished up in Land O Lakes. Water temps by me on Palmer/Tenderfoot were a balmy 51-52 with fish well out of the spawn. My brother and I limited by 2 pm on Saturday. Winds made fishing almost impossible by us on Sunday, we waited until 4 and went over to the Cisco Chain, fish were still in the spawn. We ended up catching 20+ with only 4 keepers.

If I keep catching monsters like this gal, I dont know if I'm going musky fishing at all
