Mayfield Lake in Washington State, actually an impoundment on the Cowlitz River, has been planted with tigers since the late l980's (the only Washington Lake with muskies). On the same day, Sept. 22, TWO state records (you heard right!) were caught on Mayfield -- one a 30-pounder, and the second fish 3l-l/4 pounds. The prior existing record weighed 28-plus. Not only that, but the two fishermen are friends and may have been fishing out of the same boat. John Bays of Chehalis edged out his buddy Britt Lawrence of Onalaska....and I guess they're still friends.

Wonder what might have happened if a third fisherman had been in the boat...
