Posts: 26 Location: St Cloud, MN and Madison, WI | I have a 2000 15 ft mirrocraft prostriker. I want to put a bow mount trolling motor on my baot andwas wondering which is the best way to go. Should I get the heavy duty maxxum or just go with the all terrain? How much thrust do I need? How long should the shaft be? My boat doesnt have a receptice so how hard is it to install it my self? Thanks Doe | ||

You may have to snake some wires under the decking and floor to the back of the boat, unless you already have a battery up front. The all-terrain is the cable foot control right? They are good, but I would second what Mike said, Power Drive. The maximizer on the power drives is great, you have infinite control of the prop speed.. Well, infinite to the top and bottom of its adjutsments. The all terrain models(at least mine) usually have like 5 speeds. I have a 16' tuffy with a 36lbs thrust motor, its good enough but if its windy you will want something stronger, 48lbs would be a great one. The maxxum to get would be the 55 with variable speed control with either a 42 or 52 inch shaft. Not familiar with your baot so not sure which is right. The 55lbs thrust is a 12volt. I think they changed the 48 thrust to 50 lbs thrust with the power drives, so the 50 or 55lbs thrust would be good, 48" or 54" shaft length. For the all terain 55 would be the way to go. I like the Stowaway 850 available at Sam's club for around $59-69. It is a dual purpose battery so can be used as both a starter or regular deep cycle battery. Also has a lot of reserve capacity. How to wire it is another thing, if you are not used to doing something like that it might not be a bad idea to have a boat shop rig it for you. i like Mike's link for trolling motors, you get a walleye rod for free with the purchase of trolling motor, not a bad deal.
