| Killer, Shep and Steve, thanks for the Kind responses. You too, Figuree.
Killer, I'm a CDB fan from WAY back, saw about 6 shows so far in my time, starting in the mid-70's. The Dead does do cowboy tunes (as we call them), but not for the entire show. You would probably be disgusted by the parking lot scene; many smelly hippies and other ner-do-well folks who have dropped out of regular life to follow the band. Like Phish folks, but older and they drink less Mountain Dew.
Shep, I don't see any reason not to take advantage of your idea, never fished those waters and would like to see you again. I'll have my little boat for sure and Pappa is buying a larger (18' or so) but I doubt he'll bring it to the show. My boat is too small for most big water, so, we may have to go out with you, if your gifted and charming children don't mind staying at home while you guide Pappa and I.
Steve, I didn't think for a moment that you would miss the "hideout" reference. Thank you for the offer and I'm going to talk with Pappa about touring up your way. We'll land on some firm dates (the first few week days immediately after the show) and get back with you. THANKS! and can you go fishing, too?
Figuree, I love the handle. Pappa use to have a MN license plate that read "Sugaree". I understand your quandry and acknowldge that certain GD summer outdoor shows are hard balance against other opportunities. I also totally understand your reference to "easier on the body"; it's closely related to my words to SLAMR, "...let your devils run free for a day or two". As Hunter Thompson says, "Buy the ticket, take the ride." Some of us can't help but take the ride while at the shows.
Anyway, this deal is shaping up to be the highlight of my summer. Pappa is getting a handle on camping near the venue. Musky fishing and a Dead show and more musky fishing. Life is good again. Could I possibly run into FishOn or MuskyE while tramping around WI? | |
