I recently bought a Llungen tail and was extremely impressed by it's construction. I was particularly interested in the shrink wrap used on the hook. I know this works well on the TopRaiders, but have never seen it on a bucktail before. How many people have added shrink wrap to their bucktails? If so, how has it improved (if at all) your hook-up ratio? The concept makes perfect sense. After losing a 50+" because she barely nipped my 'tail, I am eager to try this out. What size tubing do you use? Thanks in advance!

This Technique been around a long time and works on a number of lures to improve hook up's.
We used to and still do to some point on certin lures use chunks of rubber worms or small, wide Rubber bands.
Trimming the hair on a tails can also be effective or simply extending the hook back to edge of hair.
Shrink tubing size varies, good to carry a mix in the boat for many reason.
Works well in a pinch to hold a NEW rod tip in place if no glue.
I'm sure you will get a lot of input on a question like this with so many experts around these days.
Keep it simple, have some fun and Good luck in 2004.

I know on some topwaters the shrink tube is to keep that back hook hanging as far back as possible for the short strike. Isn't the hook at the back of a bucktail pretty much hanging straight back on the retrieve anyway?

It seems to me the more rigid the hook is to the lure the easier it would be for the Muskie to shake it and use the weight of the lure as leverage to free it. Unless convinced more as to the whys of shrink tubes on a bucktails, mine will remain swinging free.

What do you guys think?
