I am seventeen years old and all i do is muskie fish. I can't wait till the season opens and i can get out there and get after them. I live in wisconsin and fish a lot of lakes such as spider lake and other hayward lakes, island lake, and lake wissota quite a bit. Can anyone give me any tips on where to find the muskies in may and early june?

Thanx

Everyone has their own style or hot spots during this time but if you read Musky Hunter mag, the april issue, has good articles on fishing spring muskies. I find shallow bays and work many bucktails or rizzo tails. Mepps musky killers are hard to beat. Just find shallower bays or structure and plug away. The muskie come in at these times to feed. Warmer water is your best start.
Good Luck,

Kid,

I think we talked last year... Your covering some ground if you fishing from Chippewa Falls to Hayward. If you talking about Island up on Hwy. 40 stick to the weedy bays look for new growth weeds and you'll find fish.

On Wissota get up shallow on the sand bars and mud flats, the weeds (what little there is of them) came late last year so don't expect to find much early in the season. The Yellow River and the SE bay on the little lake are good early season spots.

Remember up here the season doesn't open until Memorial day weekend so early May is out of the question if your fishing ethically and legally.

Kid,

I would hire a good guide like Mark for a day and have him mark a map or multiple maps for you.

You will learn years of patterns and tips, you can use this info to get started on the lakes you are going to fish.

A guide will help you get a junp start on your muskie fishing.

Take advantage of your time when your with a guide, ask lots of questions about situations, patterns, structure, ect. You will get your moneys worth and then some.

The first time I met Mark was at Cass Lake, he scored a nice fat 48-inch pig a few days into the trip. The man knows how to figure out muskies.

Money spent on a quality guide is time saved figuring out lakes by your self.

Figuring out different lakes takes lots of hours, days, months and even years. For the weekend fishermen it could take a few years to pattern certain lakes. That is where a guide can give you the advantage you need.

Spend your time catching muskies.

Learning the lakes is fun, catching muskies is far better.
