Posts: 69 Location: Just above the thermoclime | I picked up a Power probe a while back and am anxious to try it out. Anyone have any tips on working it? Comments on it's success?

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | You can work the Probes many different ways depending on the mood of the fish. The way I use them early in the year is a light tap-tap-tap pause, tap-tap-tap-pause, tap-pause, tap-pause. Mix it up until you get a muskie to follow. If the fish is hot after it, repeat what you did to get the fish to follow or strike. If you get a lazy follow try to make it more erratic with pauses mixed in. I have had clients catch fish on the Mini Probe while casting and just reeling it in. When you bring it straight in make your rod tip bounce about 3 to 4-inches while you reel, this will cause the bait to swim side to side. This is a very easy method that works. I have also caught fish on the Probe using it like a twitch bait. Well the action is like a hurt fish. I take the bait cast it and dance it in as fast as I can while maintaining control of the bait. This works over the weeds when the fish are active. They can't resist, its a reaction strike.

Posts: 5205 | The probe has been one of my goto baits the past few years. Some reason musky will bite this glider while only looking at other gliders.Mix it up like Extremness metioned in above post.I use a heavy stiff leader with this lure.0723 Bill Ramsey Heidecke Lake Musky Guide Service Edited by 0723 3/17/2004 4:53 PM

Posts: 743 | Don't mock me, but the probe is really a sweet trolling bait. Mike's Extreme said his clients catch fish just reeling them in, i'm not suprised, trolling the larger one is sweet. looks good, catches fish... The are just about too sensative for me to cast. light taps are needed for gliding it. TROLL IT MAN! tomcat Edited by tomcat 3/19/2004 6:53 AM

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | I'm big into using solid leaders for jerks and cranks, but the video that SlamR provided a link to shows the guy using a limp looking leader. Keep watching up to about the 1:05 mark and they have a really nice close up of it.

Posts: 69 Location: Just above the thermoclime | Tomcat, Those are some expensive losses due to leader failure. My probe cost just around 30 bones. Has the issue with those leaders been fixed? I'd hate to save a few pennies on leaders but end up losing $$ baits. Edited by muskiehead 3/19/2004 10:50 AM
