| As Leech Lake is the mother lake to all stocked Minnesota muskies, and the muskies in many other states, technology that allows targeting of individual fish is entertaining fear that the Leech Lake muskies may be overfished causing the population to decline. Last April Kevin Kerkvliet of Frankies's Marine described a study using transmitters to follow movement of individual fish around the lake. This January Baylor Short of the Leech Lake Band will join us to describe the preliminary results of this study. Kristen Patterson of the Minnesota DNR will also join us as she is concurrently using DNA from fin clips to identify individual fish and quantify the entire population of muskies in Leech Lake.
Due to inclement weather, our December speaker Scott Kleinschmidt of Muskie Safari lures had to be rescheduled for April. Our December meeting became a discover Canadian fishing via maps, with everyone learning about Canadian lakes they already fish, or intend to fish. Thanks for everyone who contributed information about the many areas of Lake of the Woods, Eagle Lake, the Manitou and Winnipeg River. It was informative and fun.
Meeting is at the Everett McClay VFW in Bloomington. you do not have to be a member to attend. Full menu service available.
