All - plan to fish for musky on the St. Lawrence later in the summer/early fall. Mostly plan to throw 1 - 2oz spinner baits. Should I go with a Tranx 300 or 400, and what gear ratio for these blade baits? Also, would 65lb braid be sufficient, I.e. too light or too heavy? New to this so looking for some advice - thanks!

For that size baits, the 300A may be a better option, or even a 200/200HG. A 7 gear 300 at 40 IPT will more than likely be too fast a retrieve, and blow out smaller spinners, so the slower 5.8:1 would be a better choice there. Sixty five lb braid would be fine for what you've described.

I like 65 on a 300 (5.8) for spinnerbaits. I use a long ranger for spinnerbaits and found it keeps fish pinned better than my heavier rods.

With a 1-2 Oz lure 65# will be good, if you want your lure to ride high lighten your lure weight and add a bigger blade, and if you want to fish deeper use increase your lure weight and a smaller blade and with the 65# it will cut thru the water better. I put a snap/swivel on all my Spinnerbaits for changing blades. Put a barrel swivel on your tandems for more thump and a ball bearing for your singles for easy helicoptering.
