The lake I fish has been hit pretty hard by milfoil the last couple of years. Any tips on how to fish this? Through it with a spinnerbait or jig? Along the edges? Avoid it altogether? Wondering how the fish are adapt and change their behavior as a result of this change in their environment.

If the weeds are not right to the surface you can run a bucktail or surface lure, Straight modal Depth Raider or unweighted 10" Suick over the top. If it's completely weed choked gride a spinnerbait thru the weeds. Run a deep diving crank along the edges or drop a Bondy or Fuzzy down to the base. Or look for some rock or wood to fish.

Johnson silver minnow, tipped with a 4" grub. Wear a good pair of polaroids and look for any open pocket areas. Keep your casts short and accurate. Longer casts, regardless of what your using, will just get fouled up. If and when you hook up,get on your trolling motor and move in toward the fish. Kdawg

Map out the edges and inner pockets on a sunny calm day, then you can go back and make good casts. I haven't seen too many lures come through clean, best to learn the edges and cast lures that have been most productive for getting bit.

Above I've listed some things that have worked for us in the past, kdawg you reminded me that I own a lot of Single hook Troll Devle's and Rapala Spoons and of course The Johnson Silver minnows (back in the day they only came in Silver) and we used pork rind for a trailer. They are the thing to use in Lily Pads, and in the old days the largest one was a whole three inches, Can you catch a large Muskie on a three inch lure? Yes one of our largest fish was caught killed and mounted in the old catch and kill days. Buy a pair of high end sunglasses to get the most out of your lures.
