Let us know how you did.. If you have gotten one with the bow, fell free to start filling up the list. It would be fun to see how many bucks we all got this fall.

October 29, 2001

7 pointer, smaller basket rack (12.5 inch spread) with thicker than usual mass, larger body (165 pounds). Turned out to be an older deer (6.5 to 8.5 years old). This deer had no teeth.

I got a nice 8 pointer with a 15" spread, an old deer with good mass at 7am on Saturday. Then took a bonus doe just for jerky a little after that. I had to use three rounds on that doe.. Darn''t I missed the first time. Hard to hit a doe in the neck at 200 yards.

Seen a lot of deer including a 10 pointer while doing a deer drive by myself to other members in the party. Figures no gun, no tag left and then he stands broudside 20 yards away and laughs at me. If I wasnt such a sportsmen, I would have let the hunting party on Sunday and went muskie fishing. But thats not always cool.

The best part was when I got home. My daughter wanted me to take them out of the truck so she could play with them. She thought I brought her home pets.

Now back to muskie fishing.. Thank god.[:)]

Saturday, I was done by 7:45 AM. Got a 3 1/2 yr old doe at 6:36 AM, and then I got a 10 pt. with 17" spread at 7:45 AM. He had his nose stuck up the business end of a doe.

Also on Saturday morning, my nephew got his first deer, a mature doe, and my brother got a nice buck. He also got a nice doe on Sunday.

I got a bonus tag for the Mother-in-laws area, so will hunt that Turkey Day, and pack up the boy and head for some Muskie fishing for the rest of the weekend. Perhaps around Hayward, or Eau Claire, or Vilas, or..... Just gotta get after them one more time!!

Tight Lines, and may your aim be true.

I have seen 5 Bucks, and passed them all looking for the ONE I saw during bow season..Total of 17 deer I could have taken, so lots of fun so far. The most unique was a very nice buck I had dead to rights at 200. He was about to get whacked, when I noticed a distinct lack of mass on the right side...missing totally, in fact. I let him walk.

I have a freezer full of venison from bow and T zone, so I can, and will be very fussy. [::)]

Report from Monroe Center: Party of five hunted Sat. & Sun. Does seen=0 Bucks seen=2 six pointers. I was the predominant hunter with one six pointer seen, heard two, and 1 buck snort & stomp behind me. Kind of sad huh? Hardly any shooting compared to past years. Despite the heat the beer stayed cold. Trying next weekend near Boscobel.

Happy Thanksgiving

Had the last shot of the day on Sat. Plinked a half-racked 6 ptr. on my walk out of the woods. Couldn''t have been 200 yds. from the truck (why do I walk in a mile and a half???). Managed to reposition for a nice 8 on Monday. He and his she-deer friends got run out of cover by Ricky Retardo on his Fabulous Four-Wheeler buzzing through the woods about 9:30. I moved to heavier cover in the opposite direction and caught ''em coming back through about noon. There is justice......

Wednesday, prior to the opener, before we made the last leg north to deer camp, went out for an hour on the old man''s lake in Oneida Co. and banged a chubby 42"er. Life is very, very good!

Zero bucks....let 1 pass + no more seen! Just got back from the brothers wifes family T-Day dinner + they had 2 bucks fighting ALL over their yard yesterday....tore their lawn up good! Had 2 plump does 12 yards off the deck yesyerday evening + the lead doe kept looking back over her shoulder but the buck never showed....may bust a doe soon for meat but don't want to take a chance of spooking the big one....may have to wait for the full moon to get a shot on him. Bought little Sponge a "Tootsie Toy American West" pump 12 gauge shotgun last night.....he takes it everywhere he goes now! Weather is so warm nothing much is skaking on the lower east coast....[:((] [:sun:]

Also scored on Opening weekend with an 8 point buck. Got him with a 760 Rem. just below my tree stand after he chased 3 Does down the valley. This was my 8th 8 point buck in my Deer Hunting career and 14th Buck overall...yup..I like to keep Deer Stats just as well as Muskie Stats. We hunted near Readstown in Vernon Co. Also saw a large Coyote running full speed through the woods...cool sight to see. Have a successful and safe hunt. Steve

Have seen 31 deer that I could have shot, passed 9 bucks, and bagged a big doe, but...I MISSED THE BIG BOY!! Still can't believe I did that, but shot just over the top of him at about 240 yards. Was a mental error, was not settled into the site picture before I shot, as he was turning to go back into the woods.

Never have seen this ole boy before, came out with 8 does, and stood there WAY out in the distance, but that should not have even been a challenge with my 7MM Mag...still feel frustrated!! Whacked one of the does about 30 minutes later, no problem. Buck Fever at 49 years old,,, Sheesh![:((] [:((]

Motrin, Tylenol + getting ready to hit the Home Medic heating/vibrator pad.[:(] Off Monday + hope to go then. Been so warm here + it is supposed to rain some this weekend....first time in over 2-3 months![:0] [:sun:]

Finally! After watching deer parade through the back yard + in me stand up the road behind the house I put the screws to a nice 8 pointer at approx. 10:19 a.m.....normally I wouldn't post on this but it was 65 degrees at first light this morning, windy + showers at times due to the front passing.....had put on the fanny pack + slung the 35 cal. + was getting ready to exit the stand when he stepped out on the waterline....tried to sit but could barely sit on the edge of the stand....he heard me trying to get the rifle off my shoulder....started walking off....I pull the trigger....rifle not cocked.....he stops + looks at me....I silently whisper adios + let him have it....tomorrow is the last day of rifle so maybe I'll go again....1 tag left....at least this is 1 time things turned out ok in spite of what went wrong![:0] [:sun:]

Hey Sponger!!

Congratulations on a very nice buck. I am still sitting with the muzzle loader, an old Springfield cap and Ball 1 in 66" twist...great gun, and deadly if one places the shot well at 100 or under. Keith, my son, got his first muzzle loader buck yesterday, a 2 1/2 year old fork, nice animal, and will eat VERY well.

Zach will be here this evening, and will take a smoke pole out into the woods to try for a deer with a hammerlock smokepole...should be fun!

No deer movement tonight, but had a Bobcat stalk a grouse 20 yards in front of me...quite a scene, and the grouse won, got away JUST as the cat pounced...pretty cool!!

Good deal Tommer! Worth the wait no doubt....this is the first year we haven't busted at least 5-6 nice bucks....weather has been extremely warm + looks to continue in the upper 60-70s through the week; rifle season ends tomorrow w/ late muzzleloader from 12-15 through Jan. 5th. This is also the first year I haven't seen at least 1 bobcat. The buck I got today was "smoked" up....they are usually rutting here around the house 2nd week of Nov. Hope to see a nice one tomorrow!
