Hey all,

I recently purchased a used boat that has a couple graphs without any map chips and I’m hoping someone has the knowledge that I’m missing. The first unit is a gen1 helix 12 chirp si gps. I’ll be using the unit mostly for navigating new to me waters and trolling when the time comes. The second unit is a Helix 7 mid gps G3 cho. That’ll be up front where I’m casting from so a good map will help a ton.

Any info you can share on the best chips to purchase is greatly appreciated.

Since you have the Humminbird units, the best chip to use would be the Lakemaster chip that covers your given area. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Humminbird actually owns Lakemaster. I would say you could network your units together, but I am not sure if the G1 and G3 are capable of talking with one another. There are many on this board much smarter than me that could speak to that.

I don't think the G1 units are able to network and unless your Helix 7 is a G3N, it won't network either.. Map chips can't be shared between units. Each unit needs their own chip.

I'm running a couple G2Ns and need a map chip for each one..

Navionics maps show contours for most bodies of water. Lakemaster shows more detail, but only for select bodies of water. The "Follow the Contour" feature only works with a Lakemaster chip.

G1 is a no go, needs to be a G2N at a min to network.

Lakermaster and any custom maps you make with Autochart Live can be used with follow the contour

Thanks everyone. I guessed that it would be lake master but figured I’d ask the experts rather than trusting myself or a salesman at cabellas
