Love Midway USA but these prices make me feel like a grouchy old man.

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1025738488?pid=361016

7" and 2.4 oz of 100% silver. oops plastic and a couple trebles for $60.

Back in the day I purchased boxes full of Tsunami 7" swim shad (2 pack) and 9" Shads (1-pack) for $1.99 each at C & J Sport Inc. So glad I bought big cardboard boxes full of each, maybe 200 packages total (approx 300 lures) for $400.

To think I could have saved my money and bought 6 or even 7 Spro KGB Chad Shads.

On the other hand, they obviously didn't start with just one, someone's buying these.

I was very skeptical of high-end bass glides...my tune has changed a bit. Some are balanced and tuned so well, you really just have to see them in the water. The cheap ones roll or sink etc., just don't look lifelike in the water. Now I don't own any Hinkle Shads, but there are some baits out there that are really special. One of my favorites is a Jackall Gantarel Jr. I literally can't tell the difference between it and a live bluegill in the water. It suspends perfectly and moves like a real bluegill with the slightest twitch. So much fun to work. California and Japanese anglers have spent a whole lot of time tuning and developing some of these bass lures, some big manufacturers are "borrowing" some of these designs every year now.

There is another thread here about suspending muskie jerkbaits, made me think that no one has really taken the time to develop such a thing in the muskie world. Our baits probably don't need to be so refined? Having said that, you can easily spend $100+ on a muskie lure.

Looking at the Musky Shop website, the most expensive bait I saw was $129. Number of others in the $80 to $100 range.
A few years ago, my wife and I had gone to lunch in Minocqua and on the way home stopped at the Musky Shop to pick up some line and a couple leaders. She has no interest in fishing but was quite taken by all the baits, rods, etc. I showed her a high end St. Croix and said "this costs more than the last 3 rods I bought combined". She saw the Headlock and did a double take on the price. But, I explained it was hand made and pointed out the incredible finish. She said she could see why it was expensive. I of course pointed out that I didn't have any lures nearly that expensive. All and all a good trip. I ended up looking very frugal. And she did say she could not imagine a fisherman walking in there and not buying something.

I see a Megalures Pike for $299 on Musky shop.

I'm not buying it, but hat's off to anyone that does.

The price of lures in both the Bass and Muskie realm have gone crazy.
I sure am glad I got started when you could still get most muskie baits for 10 to 15 bucks.

Yes, they have. Thankfully I too have quite the assortment of 10-15 dollar musky baits from years ago (and sub $5 bass baits). I've been hoping some up-and-coming lure makers will pop up, trying to get in the market at more reasonable prices, but it seems like it's the opposite. Most anything new on the scene gets priced higher.
