Yeah, I found the Facebook page but the website link on the FB page goes to a Go Daddy page saying it’s available. Furthermore their lures appear to be out of stock everywhere.

Location: MN | They are listed as an exhibitor at the MN muskie expo. It is possible that is not up to date. I don't see them on the Chicago or Milwaukee exhibitor list - were they present at any of the shows? |

| I was going to start a thread with a similar inquiry. I've not seen a Cannonball or Cannonball jr for sale from any of the larger online retailers in over a years time.
I don't see much for competitor alternatives for a larger (over 2" diameter) prop tail other than higher dollar "custom" baits. |

Location: NW WI | I think they struggle with keeping up with demand at times and don't manage an online presence often. 2 years ago their website said it was closed while a new site was being built, not sure what happened there. I think what they do, based on what I've seen in the past is they hold inventory in the winter probably to cover show sales, than all the store front shops they're in get restocked late winter,early spring, than what is leftover gets distributed to online shops. |

Location: ladysmith, wi | Yes LakeX is still up and running, the only expo they will be at is the Wi Musky Expo in Wausau March 15-17th I also believe Ross's sport shop will carry them in their booth in Minn and yes they are spending time with their kids in school sports cause in the blink of an eye time passes. I personally applaud John and Tiffiney for putting Family first. |

Location: Delavan, WI | Perhaps this is just a hobby income for them, and they don't want "employees" !!!
My wife runs such a business, and although it's not as profitable as it can be- she is perfectly happy and does not care to have anyone else involved, she can also assure her customers that only one person handles the complete process from beginning to end, thus lessening chances for any mistakes to be made, and last it's not about how you want them to run their business, that is their choice, and I'm ok with that! |

The only error made by Lake X is not sharing there plan ahead of time to prevent speculation like this...
As far as hiring employees... I hate to break it to you there is not enough volume in muskie lures to make a ton of money once you factor in wholesale pricing and time spent etc... A friend of mine started a bait company that most know and at its peak was selling 20K lures annually and the profits were pretty slim compared to time commitment needed to make it happen. He sold it to a company with multiple other brands and now actually gets to go fishing again.
Hopefully they are back when ready because their baits sure do catch fish. It would be sad to see another quality brand go MIA like Musky Buster did.

I think we as musky fishermen tend to overestimate the market for lures. Pretty small market and employees are not cheap. The local Taco Bell is advertising $15-17/hr starting wage. And that is just wages. At the very least you need workers comp insurance and some sort of liability insurance. And the price you pay at the Musky Shop is not what the maker gets, not even close. |

Location: NW WI | I get all of that, I'm not taking my point to bed with me or anything . Heck I haven't even any idea if they opporate out of an attached garage or a professional shop. Secondary income or not, there's obviously a demand that's regularly not met which essentially is equal to gross profit loss. I'd just like to think there's possibly room for either A: somebody to run the show for them so they can live life as they see fit when they choose to and still make money or B: Bring on part time manufacturing staff, plenty of Teens out there with a sad excuse of a tech program that I'm sure would rather run a lathe and a spray booth instead of sitting behind a register. Lots of folks looking for part time work in addition to their day job as well. |

There's several amazing lure builders in my neck of the woods.. They're well known by those who follow the small batch builders.
They turn out a batch whenever they feel like, and don't try to make a fortune doing so..
We don't tell them how to run their business, and acknowledge the fact they have other more pressing issues in their lives.. |
