Does anyone know if Abu is servicing/repairing the original revo 60 beasts? I only want Abu to service the reels.

I looked through their website and I don't believe they do that..

That said, I just sent several off to Mat's Reel Repair in Eagle River WI.. Their work is second to none.

You won't be disappointed..

Why are you so insistant the manufacturer does your routine service?

Howdy,

Agreed, Matt does wonderful work and has been very helpful with any questions that I’ve had.

Take care,

Also a very satisfied customer of Matt's. But, don't wait until a month or so before you need them. He is often backed up 2-3 months.

Does Matt have multiple people performing reel repair in his shop? Every single one of the 5 revo beast 60’s I sent with him last year came back extremely delayed compared to what was said at the show and they all had a high pitched metal on metal chirping sound every time I cast out. Funny thing was they never did that before and all I sent them in for was for the usual cleaning/lube. It was wonderful to find that out 1000 miles from home on a fishing trip. So no I won’t be using Matts. I guess if it comes down to it and Abu doesn’t service the Gen 1 beasts I will just buy new. I will keep the forum updated on whether or not Abu still works on them.

I know you stated you only want ABU to service your reels and that is understandable. I like Shimanos and used to feel the same way. Folks turned me on to Vern's reel repair and custom builds. He has a Facebook Page. I used Mat several years ago and felt like he did a good job as well, but Vern is much closer to me geographically and at the time his services were a bit cheaper. I dont know if this is still the case or not. I am not bashing mat in any way, but I am confident if you send your reels to Vern he can do the job for you. I am particular about my equipment and have no trouble sending my reels to Vern. Also, I can tell you I have been to his shop and everything is meticulously organized and clean there. To me that is something that indicates a professional operation.

Did you give him a call with your concerns? He seems like a pretty reasonable guy, and would do his best to make things right. There was a guy who was the MI expert on reels, and repair.. He did amazing work, but even he was overly optimistic on turnaround times..

Small shops like that even though they advertise some, mostly rely on word of mouth for business, and are more apt to do what it takes to satisfy their customers.. Give the guy a chance..

Back in the day, the only reels that we (I was part of the factory reel service center) did not service were the low end bait casters (it was easier and cheaper to just replace) and spinning reels (unless it was a bail spring or a bail arm simple fix as it was cheaper and easier to do that). They may not have a pile of parts for the newer reels, but I would bet they would still clean/lube them. Easiest thing to do is pick up the phone and call the service center. They will know the answers to your questions more than a non-factory internet site.

Otherwise Southwestern Parts and Service in Dallas, Texas. If repair places don't get their parts from the factory service center, then they probably get them from Southwestern.

I remember many years ago, just about every sports show that had any fishing emphasis had a booth where factory reps would service Abu Garcia reels. That was at a time where they were the gold standard of bait casters and came in a leather case ;>). Think they were made in Sweden?

They were made in Sweden until about the mid 80's. The double arm clutch plate, non-instant anti-reverse models were rock solid. Red thumb bar 6600C and 5600C were great reels too. I built my 6600 from scratch, but used a new black thumb bar frame. The red plastic on the thumb bars would eventually give out, but it took a long time for that to happen, unless they were abused.

From my understanding, the round ambassaduer 5500c3 and 6500c3/c4's are still made in Sweden, along with their international series. Am I wrong? All the info I read on these reels state Made in Sweden. Kdawg

Got he same impression too, from various articles and such.. I happen to have some reels midway in the "Pay Mat's a visit cycle", and the old Revo Toro, Revo Toro S, and Revo Toro Beast" all have "Swiss Engineered" proudly emblazoned on the frame..

They still perform flawlessly, regardless of origin..

I'll likely get to a tackle store in the near future, (the truck just turns off the highway by itself), and will check out the round reels closely.

Yes, the C series are still built in Sweden unless you’re talking about the 7000 or larger. The S series and others are not what I would call durable reels. It is a myth that the C series production has ever been anything but Swedish.
