Hi Everyone!

Have an opportunity next summer for a trip to the central area of Eagle Lake. In planning for this trip, I love to pour over a map in the off season. I did a very quick search on here for any paper map sources and did not see anything pop out at me.

Anyone have a good source for an Eagle Lake Paper map with depth contours? I don't believe a map exist from the canadian hydrgraphic services but will continue to look.

Thanks Everyone!!

Steve

Seems like Fishing Hotspots is the only one?

So far, my searching has brought up nothing else for a waterproof paper copy...

It will work... but man...would be nice to have something like the maps of lake of the woods...

I'll have map chips as well, and I did find an online depth map of the lake as well...

Keep them coming if there are other sources everyone!!

Thanks!

A lot of Eagle is clear enough that you can do a lot of satellite recon it looks like. Google Earth and the Ontario Fish Online site. You can creat a google map and put pins on reefs and extended points, random boulders etc. we also take screen shots and reference them on the lake at times. google map pins can be exported and imported onto your graph.

The best paper map is Hot Spots, and it is not good. The available map chips are also not good, unless the new LakeMaster chip comes out for 2024 as they were doing mapping on it last summer.

With the arrival of map chips to online services, there seems to be a significant decline in the availability of paper maps everywhere from the mega retailers, down to the mom-n-pop shops..

That's too bad since there's just something about having a paper map around..

I do a lot of my off season Canada scouting on Navionics Online Chart viewer. I usually have the google images satellite image open and the same time so I can flip back and forth. I've found some good spots doing that.

I agree that a good paper map is always helpful for me. I use it to mark spots, hazards, etc. I'd hate to be out on a body of water, have a graph fail, and not have a means to know my way back...

I have spent a bunch of time in the apps mentioned and have found a decent one for the lake, but just having that paper map in hand is a wonderful aspect to see the bigger picture.

Thanks and keep the conversation going!!

I keep paper maps and compass in the boat as well. Marker buoys in Canada always have numbers on them that are marked on most paper maps, if your graph goes down and you find a buoy you can use it to orient yourself to a map. Just be careful because they're usually marking a reef or under water obstruction.

I assume you are staying at a resort. Have you contacted the resort owner? They likely have a map hanging on a wall.

Don't search for a map, search for a lake chart. Canadian charts cannot be printed in the United States anymore. U.S. companies will sell them, but they are ordering them from Canada. You are probably looking for the large paper charts.

Hiya!!

Those are the types of charts I'd like to have...but...Eagle lake does not exist there...

Eagle does not have any marked navigational buoys, nor a Canadian hydrographic map like you'll find for LOTW or in the above YouTube video. Best thing available is the Hot Spots map as mentioned - and it is far from perfect. The lodge owners do a pretty good job of putting out jugs near their resorts of underwater hazards, but they certainly can't get to them all.

In my opinion, your best bet is to talk to the lodge owner to help mark your hot spots map, and as is often (and justifiably) mentioned - hire a guide for a day or two early in your trip. It's an awesome body of water! Good luck!

Wondering what you found wanting in the Hot Spots maps. I have them for several lakes here in N. Wis. and they seem pretty well done. But, much smaller lakes.

Hot spots seems to be the only paper version out there at this point. I can pick it up at a local Fleet Farm here in the cities. It will do, but I am highly considering updating my electronics to something that would allow me to auto chart as well.

I like the paper map to pour over and mark spots, take a look at while in the boat without having to zoom out, zoom in, etc. And...if electronics went down somehow, or batteries died, I still need to be able to get off the lake with the kicker. So...for me, a simple paper map will do a lot for me.
