As the fishing season draws to a close, I'm sure most of you will be looking for some good reading material for this winter. I've got a great tip for you:

Gordon MacQuarrie was considered the Dean of outdoor writers in the middle part of the 1900's, circa 1930 to 1956. In addition to being the Outdoor writer for the Milwaukee Journal, "Mac" wrote for at least seven national outdoor publications. He wrote about all things outdoors and his writings have been re-published in at least 8 books, starting with the first one by Zack Taylor, a former editor of Sports Afield magazine. Of foremost interest to us muskie nuts is a just released publication edited by Dave Evenson (his 4th MacQuarrie publication), a career employee of the Wisconsin DNR and proud member of the Barnes Area Historical Association, who has published his four MacQuarrie books.

This latest tome is entitled: "MacQuarrie on Muskies". It is a great read telling many stories about the early days of Muskie fishing, mostly in Wisconsin, the early stars of the sport, like Frank Suick, Tony Burmek and many others. Most interesting to me was the difficulty in catching muskies in those days, mostly I believe due to the inadequate equipment that was available or used. MacQuarrie's writing style puts the reader in the boat where things happen. An Extremely Enjoyable read! I know your will enjoy it and if you are already a MacQuarrie fan, check out Dave's other three MacQuarrie books.

Help the association and your pocket book by ordering the book from the Association and get free shipping and handling. Go to:

bahamuseum.org/product/macquarrie-on-muskies/

The book, "MacQuarrie on Muskies" is $15.00. PRICE INCLUDES $3 SHIPPING AND HANDLING

I'm assuming he's referring to the Barnes Area Historical Association.

There is also an "association" within the association for duck hunters that love MacQuarrie's writings. It is called the "Old Duck Hunter's Association Inc." (the "inc" stands for Incorrigible)! LOTS more great reading!!!

As are a lot of elderly readers. I am in a non-fiction book club and the two over 80 members both use Kindles, in part because they can adjust the font size if they want.
Folks that think e-readers are limited to younger tech savvy are missing the boat.
