| I got a new to me boat this year with rails. What are your guys opinions on rod holder options? The ones that came with it are nice for walleye but I wouldn’t trust in cold weather for muskie. I will be trolling lotw. |

| I still have 2 salties so I’m familiar with DE. Does anyone have experience with Ram holders? They have a decent amount of flex to them which scares me. The boat came with a half dozen of them. The arm looks similar to a folbe though? |

| Folbe's have little flex compared to ram arms. I thought my rams were going to twist apart pulling 12" slammers. |

| I used DE for years and switched to Folbes. Reason I switched to Folbes is my rod grips seemed to get chewed up when using the DE. Having said that. Either one will do you well for musky trolling. It is basically a Ford v. Chevy v. Dodge argument as far as FOLBE and DE go.
I have heard folks state that the Folbe's are plastic. That is true, but whatever they use is much tougher than some of the plastic Walleye holders out there. One thing to remember is to put the "fixed" side towards the back when trolling so that it opens towards the front. They also have a lock on them you can use in very rough water, but I do not normally lock them unless it is really rough.
Anyway, as I said earlier both the DE and Folbe are tough and you will be happy with either.

| I got a good deal on some folbes. Do people run them unlocked or locked? I’ve done some walleye trolling with my son and unlocked Seems fine. Do any of you guys with a lot of hours on them for muskies have any input on this? I could see the lock being tricky ice cold weather with gloves on. |

| Have used the folbes unlocked for muskies the past 8 years or so, and never had an issue or any concerns. The locks are too fiddly and difficult to deal with when a fish is on, or to quickly pick up and deal with a snag. Only scenario I'd consider locking is if you have a prop wash rod pointed directly backwards, rather than the rod perpendicular to the boat |

| I totally agree. I normally use them unlocked except for a rod pointed straight into the wash. When using them on the side of your boat, make sure you have the proper side of the rod holder to the front of the boat. I think it is the fixed side toward the back of the boat, but I could be wrong. I marked mine so I could get it right each time and not have to remember, but I think the side of the rod holder that opens should be toward the front of the boat.

| There was a guy that made aluminum holders and were indestructible called Bulletproof Tackle. I wish I could find him. Quality! I would get a couple more. |
