Posts: 20221 Location: oswego, il | If I could name one person who has had the biggest impact on where I fish it would be Russ. His writing the original Fishing Hot Spots map books led me to not follow the crowds but forge my own path. I have every one of them and his fishing the north country books that are available now. Imagine catching bass in SE Wisconsin on July 4 or Muskies in Northern Wisconsin on that same holiday and being the only boat on the lake. Russ opened a ton of doors for me and many of my friends some of whome.have moved up and others who plan to retire in the areas I enjoy fishing because of Russ. I had the honor of having him speak at our club. He was a great story teller. I ran into him once at a boat ramp. He was standing there with his clients waiting. It was stormy but not bad. I launched he said been doing this for 40 years I'm not going out there. His subtle way of telling me not to. I did. Went down the creek into the lake the first lightning cracked over my head, turned around went back to the ramp.and had a great conversation until the storm passed. Watched him put his client on a 40" fish at the same time a 4fter took a swipe at my bait. Thank you Russ for being you and for what you have contributed to the sport of fishing. You've had a huge impact on me. https://www.waidfuneral.com/obituaries/russell-russ-warye-sr Edited by ToddM 8/2/2023 7:08 AM

Posts: 89 | I also have most if not all of the original Fishing Hot Spots books. They helped me very much when I was young. Very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Warye.

Posts: 753 | This is sad, thanks for sharing. I met Russ when I spent a week up at Witch Bay Camp in 2012. I never fished with him but he spent an hour marking up a map for me and 20 minutes on the phone before I came setting me up on recommended bats and colors. Truely a class act and all around great guy...
