With all the lakes in IL with HP limits under 135, it's time to invest on a kicker. Who owns a Merc 9.9 and what are your opinions? I was doing a little research on them and found that they are selling the fourstrokes (Bigfoots). Some people say that it's really heavy, lacks power, and repair costs. Some folks like that it's quiet, clean, fuel efficient, and reliable. What do you folks think? I need as much info as possible since this is a fairly large investment. Thanks in advance!

I have a Merc 9.9 kicker on my esox magnum. I got the cheapest one I could get and thus it's a 2 stroke. I'm also in Illinois so I really just use it to fish Evergreen and Shabbona. It has performed fine for me.

I've got the 2002 9.9 4S, manual start. It almost always starts on the second pull. I flooded it once at Shelbyville last year while letting it warm up, I kept it choked too long. Took a few pulls to clear it out. Other than that, the motor has been flawless. It is not a BigFoot, and has plenty of power for my Lund 1700 Angler SS. I have well over 150 hours on it. No complaints with the motor at all. I paid $1980 for mine.

Have a 2002 Merc 9.9 four stroke. Very quite. Runs great. Being a 4 stroke, it's a little cold blooded as most all 4 strokers are. I have to remember to let it warm up a little before taking off. After it's warm, it's a one puller the rest of the day. Great motor!!!
