TL;DR: I reconnected with an old buddy of mine from the service. Here is the issue I'd like to get some help with:

1. I live in Sioux Falls, SD.
2. He lives in Gaines, MI, a Detroit burb.

I'd like to take him fishing on a numbers lake that's roughly equidistant from us. I am not married to the UP or Wisconsin. Timeframe is next spring/early summer. Bonus points if there are decent accommodations nearby.

OK, I had some time, MapQuest shows it is 844 miles from you to him, so we're looking for something around 420 miles. It's 418 miles from him to Madison, WI. by the routes shown.
May i suggest you contact Capt. Mike Koepp at Pewaukee Lake, WI and get him to put you on a bunch of fish there? Be my suggestion (he got me my first fish here). Good motels and restaurants close. m

I agree with Jeff Hanson as one of the best guides I have ever fished with. Book him early as his schedule fills up quickly.

When I was RVP of my old Muskie INC Chapter we had the fall board meeting in Pewaukee and it was a blast, most the guy's fished Pewaukee for a day (we went North and fished away from everyone else) and bought some lures at Smokey's and we ate well too. After the meeting a friend picked me up and we went to Chicago for the rest of the weekend. It was hard to leave, they had a whole bathtub full of Leinenkugel's on ice.
