Going to Canada next week,,everybody cooks one meal,,I would rather buy steak here since there's a good sale but I don't want it taken away from me at border. For you guys that have been to Canada this year what has been your experience with food crossing the border,,especially meat.

I cross several times a month and have not been questioned about food this season.

We were told there is no restrictions currently.

Last couple of years it was eggs and chicken because of the bird flu’s .

 So, your good to go…

Back when we used to fish Canada we had a giant cooler full of food for the four of us for two weeks. (there might of been a dollar amount on how much) if there was we were ok. There's limits on Booze and Smokes and I think even gas.

There's no limit on gas. Why would you haul gas all the way up here anyhow? LOL.

Years ago a bunch of us went to Northern Sask. and we took a lot of gas over the border (they were worried) we were so far North there was nothing up there. eight hours of dirt roads. Who would haul gas up there? ... . . Chuck and his dumb buddies!
Some of my friends have made that trip again not me, it was fun but not that fun.

People do what they are going to do. We go to SD for pheasants now and then and only bring our guns - maybe an empty gas jug just in case. In general I think the local community embrace when you shop locally and spend time in the local pubs and restaurants - guess what? They appreciate it so much sometime that they may give you some hot tips or just flat out loose lips just being friendly. On the other hand bring all your own groceries and truck full of gas jugs, a bit (quietly) frowned upon no matter whether cross border or cross province or state. I get it that lots of working folks on tight budget, but your dollar goes pretty far up here and the little towns you pass through with a little grocery store would sure appreciate the patronage.

Crossed two weeks ago with a cooler full of meat, eggs and other groceries, with no issues. Just to be safe you might want to make sure your stuff has "Product of the USA" on the label, or something similar.

Actually years ago my friends use to buy new gas cans and fill them up with liquor to get past the limit you can bring, they never got caught.

The first time we went to Minaki was with the muskie INC Chapter so someone from the chapter brought the food. The next year we went as a family and went into Kenora to buy food. But noticed a little store was going be open by next year along with the big resort and golf course. It was nice to get there and shop close to the resort. Stores, restaurant, big resort, golf course, Minaki was jumping that year. Well the guy who bought the resort didn't pay his people at the end of the summer so someone burnt the place down. Things shout down again and we had to stop and buy food on the way up. It's been 19 years since I was up there. When we go to Minnesota or Wisconsin we shop in Eagle River or Minocqua, Deer River or Walker.
