| After spending a fair amount of time in the water yesterday helping a neighbor with his dock, thought the water might be warm enough for the spawn and today saw my first ones along the shore by my place. Was working in my yard when I heard splashing under some over hanging bushes. Thought it was ducks at first but when I couldn't see anything, walked down the hill. Sure enough a low forties fish came cruising right next to shore, probably in the 42-43 range, but very thick. And very scarred up. Saw others in the shallows in front of my neighbors a while later, so it is apparently full go.
Always fun to see them, particularly when like today, they swim right under the dock while standing on it. |

Location: Twin Cities Metro | I was observing on social media some pictures of muskies caught last weekend during the southern WI opener. All the pictures I saw were of clean fish with no spawning injuries. It wasn't a huge data set, but it made me wonder if the muskies being caught were those that did not participate in the spawn or whether the muskies there were still pre-spawn.

The 2 I got a good look at today were both beat up. The other couple I just saw a fin or tail, etc. |

Location: Stevens Point, Wi. | Yup. Saw a pair up in a smaller Vilas county lake on Sunday. Water temp was 53. The pair were in about 6-8 inches of water and the male was hitting the female steadily. Fun to watch. |

Piscatoral spousal abuse?? Regardless, I'll be up there in three weeks.. looking forward to it, with the season down here about to end for the summer..

| Saw two more muskies today, swimming right next to each other in perfect sync. From what I can find, the spawn lasts about 10 days, so they must be just about done. The two I saw today also swam under the dock I was on and they had very little scarring, unlike the others I have seen. Kind of surprised me, would think they should be pretty beat up by now. |

| My nephew and I caught the same muskie in the same spot around a year apart, when I caught it was 39".5 and full bodied and when he caught it was 41".5 and on the thin side. Maybe his spawned later or even mine didn't drop it's egg's that year?
Who knows ??? Or maybe no correlation? |
