A lot of guys anymore quit "bulging" them, in favor of a moderate retrieve, although both have their time and place..
...and there's the stagger blade option..

Location: NW WI | Really just about any crankbait or swimbait would suit the bill. But if shallow and covering water fast is your criteria, I'd be reaching for a Cat's Tail Flaptail Mouse. It's basically a Musky sized Bassoreno. Ultra slow retrieve it'll function as finesse flaptail, moderate to fast retrieve it'll dive to about 1-2'. |

| i dont think there are any production makers, but a musky sized spy bait would fit that bill. There are a few custom builders. I have not personally tried but hope to put one together at some point.
i'd probably go swimbait. there are a lot of good options both from musky and bass markets that would work well.
an old school option would be a Believer on the shallow setting, thats a nice profile and easy to retrive |

| We tend to work a lot of open water adjacent to humps. Seems like most of the fish tend to hang directly above the hard to soft bottom transition roughly 25 to 30 feet of water. In the warmer months we count down swinmn dogs and pull them up the side of the structure. This past Nov were following bait and on a whim started counting down Hell Hounds. Just worked the bait with the reel handle and did extremely well in the cold water. For this year I picked up a pair of mini grenades and shadzilla and will put them into the mix as well. |

is a very good one. It is easy to cast and bring in. Has great action with the 2 tails.
You can just reel it straight in or do hard turns on your reel to get it to hop.
It was one of the first big soft plastics for musky. It came out long before Bulldawgs or Medussa's. Very few guys use these which I'll never understand. They have put hundreds of fish in my boat

These ^^^. Good search baits, great action, and have put a lot of fish in the boat, including quite a few big Walleye. |
