Posts: 20221 Location: oswego, il | Getting a.boat plug to seal in this hole has been a huge chore. Most of the time you cannot get it to seal and when I do I leave it because I don't know when I'm going to make it seal again. I thought about installing an oval shaped aftermarket boat plug assy but the chamfer is out and not in so that's out. It may stick below the hull as it is. As tight as I can screw a standard 1" plug before it reaches the point it won't turn anymore, it will rarely seal. How about one of these installed on the inside? https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Oval+boat... It's a 96 princecraft 142. I've literally had the plug in the boat without removing it for over 10 years. I can't get a new one to seal. I might try seeing if that stainless one will fit but in order for it to fit on the inside I will probably have to grind the bottom of it. Maybe I can custom cut a thick rubber seal and mount it on the outside.

Posts: 483 | You could get a sleeve and epoxy it in that hole drill the small hole and use a normal 1'' plug , i did that in my 1992 142 .

Posts: 5176 | I would epoxy it on the inside with fiberglass cloth if possible. Sand it down that apply marine tex over it on the out side.if you can't get inside this will work on the outside.

Posts: 20221 Location: oswego, il | Thankfully, the stainless T-hamdle 1" plug didn't jump threads before it would seal tight. It's a significant amount of turning to make tight. I've tried a brass one in the past and would not tighten before jumping the threads. The 1.25" plug would not fit and the flange plug would not go into the 1" hole as advertised and would require taking a grinder to the transom. Thankfully the easiest option worked. I will order several of them for spares.
