I have meet many muskie anglers and I often find it funny that a good portion of them, and I mean the die hards all wrestled in high school.

Is it the dedication in sport that makes a good muskie hunter, Just something interesting to think about, might not be true, but I can name many wrestlers that are muskie anglers. Paul Klien, Bill Schwartz and myself to name a few.

I''m w/ Handydude....I''d wrestle a girl when I was younger, then after the 3 count match over!! Now at my age rather than "tussle" I use an alley biscuit.......[:0] [:sun:]

Cutting weight sucks!!! I liked to eat too much to wrestle. I played baseball. If you swing hard enough you got to jog around instead of run. [] Baseball is good crosstraining for musky fishing too. A good hookset is just a reverse homerun swing.

Football and Baseball, but my fishing and hunting got in the way of practice. Wrestled for one year, lost alot. Was trying to do 140 from a 155 frame.

I was a scrawny 120lber until 8th grade, and then I had discovered girls, partying and FISHING! I spent a lot of nights after school doing all three.

Here's to Duff, Rick & Marcus! All wrestlers, and my fishing buddies (cheers!). We once drove Duff's dad's new pickup out onto the ice, and walked about 20 yards away taking depth measurements thru the ice. When we looked back at the pickup, we could literally see the ice sloping down towards the pickup. We very gingerly crept back to the pickup and drove off the 2 inches of ice in a hurry. I think that was the same day we caught, filleted, and fried a walleye on a cut-open beer can, and ate it all in under 5 minutes. I'm pretty much glad those days are over, and I'm still alive...
(Kids: Don't try this at home alone. Give me a call first)

I second the comment that cutting weight sucked!!! I could smell food a mile away with my nostrils pinched together after a week of fasting on rice cakes, grape fruit, and "Butter Budd" fish. The worst was cutting weight after being sick for a couple days, and "weigh in" the morning only to find out you had 6 lbs to lose. Put on the ole snowmobile suit and jump rope in the boiler room. Then you'd hope that you wouldn't totally dehydrate yourself, and perform like a pile of crap. But wrestling really got me in shape for the upcoming track season.

My younger brother was a hard core wrestler also and he's the guy that got me into muskie fishing once again. I hate to admit it but he was a better wrestler than me. But I could smoke him in track anyday!!!

I have a muskie fishing buddy that just turned 40 and is still participating in "old timer" tournaments. He also goes to area high schools and works out with some of the kids. I have alot of respect for him. Plus his knees are still in pretty good shape...must have sold his soul to the devil.

Right on Jason!! Wrestled for 3 years in high school, was captain my senior year. Wish I could remember how to lose weight now like I could back then.....[;)]

Now "wrastling" is a different sport and generally involves your girlfriend or wife..[]

Gotta fight you on this one...me, Lungin and SetMe31 all played volleyball in highschool. My reasoning was that I could only run 20ft at most, the court is only 15ft wide....then i could be slim and trim, but never have to run and be in shape.

In high school I played basketball and ran cross-country for 4 years. I think the cross-country is the reason I have the patience to last in musky fishing. Cross-country has got to be the most boring sport in the history of sports, however it does get me in good shape before I play basketball.

Interesting topic,

Baseball put me through college, but I always wished it was football, the wrestling thing just wasn't me, I could never get used to some sweating, panting guy trying to flip me over using his thumb and my ass as leverage.(You know the move Jason) Matt

Played soccer throughout my childhood, played three years high school varsity soccer, played division three varsity soccer in college for three years. I then retired from soccer due to: torn and strained achilles tendons, fraternities, sexually experimental college women, and beer. My almamater – University of Wisconsin - Platteville

Ps. There were some awesome trout and smallmouth streams nearby. I miss college.

Slamr, don't forget about davep and his brother (kyle I think). They both played volleyball too. We might have the wrestlers out numbered.

They didn’t have a boy’s volleyball team in my high school. They only had a team for the girls.

Not one hockey player out there other than me? Muskie Tom where are you?

I figured I was a Muskie Nut because I took too many pucks to the head as a goaltender.

One of the beauties in Hockey is that you could always start a wrestling match (or boxing for that matter) on the ice whenever the notion struck you. Then take a nice breather in the Sin Bin for a few minutes.

Never saw a hockey game break out at a Wrestling match...
