I thinking about buying the Dakota Lithium 36v system (3x 12v 100ah Batteries). I was wondering if anyone had an honest review of these? Everything I’ve read or watched seems like a paid advertisement. Just wondering if anyone is running this setup. I’ve got some time to shop as my 36v ulterra doesn’t seem to be shipping anytime soon. Thanks!

I went ahead and ordered, I’ll provide an update once they are installed and running.

I’ve got a 24v ulterra and just installed two of the 12v, 54ah dakotas a week or so ago. A few outings later, one of them a full day, they did great and were fully charged in an hour after I got them back on the charger at home. When they first lit up on the charger they were close to fully charged to begin with. Pretty slick so far.

I do not have Dakota. I have Battleborn, so I can only tell you about my "leap into lithium." I use two 100AH on a 24 volt system to power my 80 lb Terrova. As you know, Lithium is very expensive up front, but cheaper over the long run. My experience is they do everything they say. No drop off even after 12 hours, charge back up quickly, much lighter than conventional batteries, etc. I like them and would tell anyone if they have the money that it is worth it to go that way as it is cheaper over the long haul. My understanding is that some guys have been getting over 13 years out of the BattleBorns and Dakota may have similar results.

I am going to need to replace my trolling motor batteries in the next year or so, do you need a special charger for the lithium deep cycle batteries?

I think it states somewhere on Dakota’s site that you CAN use a regular charger but you may shorten the life of a lithium battery using a charger not rated for them. The batteries cost a lot so I want them to last as long as possible. I installed a Noco Genius 10 3 bank that has settings for all the battery types.

Thanks, mine only has regular, agm and gel, not lithium.

I can only tell you what the folks at Battleborn told me regarding the life of the batteries. As for a charger, I use a NOCO that has a setting for Lithium. I would not use a regular charger. My feeling is these batteries are too expensive to experiment with. I have heard a conventional charge will charge them but not up to the full capability of the batteries.

I know Dakota throws in a charger when you buy their batteries so you don’t have to worry about having the right charger.

yes, you need a charger that can support lithium. Lots of options out there. I went with a 4 bank NOCO

Switched to the DL 36v 100Ah system this spring and paired with a 4 bank NOCO. they're amazing. I haven't taken them below 75%. I don't know if my body could survive discharging them completely in one outing
