I don't know, look at how the DNR uses fyke nets to sample fish populations. They are checked daily but a musky that enters the net right after placement can spend 24 hours in there. I caught one on opening day that had been caught and fin clipped a number of years ago. It was a little beat up but very healthy and swam away strong after release. Odd thing was that when I called the DNR office, as we had been asked to do if we caught a fin clipped fish, they said, no we didn't clip that fin. Than, after a bit, the guy said, oh wait we did do that clip on a couple fish where unsure of gender. The size and location matched. In fact, from what he said, the fish was less than a hundred yards from where it had been netted. |
