| I heard long before the Shallow Dawgs came out, people were cutting the lead out of BullDawgs and making them run shallow. Can i do this with Super D's , suzy suckers and curly sues? Any certain tool i need to get it done? |

Location: SE, WI. | No reason to do any cutting. Hellkat Shockbaits makes cork models. It’s my favorite near big boulders and high weeds, when you need to run baits shallow! 3 or 4 different sizes. JD |

| There's just too many ways to bring in some raunchy comments here.
Twisted Tulibees run real shallow with a normal retrieve. Not sure if they are still in operation, or if they made a shallow shallow version specifically. |

Just checked em out JD. Yeah, those will do the trick. Can someone PM the Owner of Hellkat that the link on his Facebook for his Homepage has been "Hacked/Had a Trojan Horse installed on it" (Sorry, not too familiar with those terms) but when I clicked on it I got re-routed to some insane blinking Asian website.
Others man, browse around on some bass/general fishing supply websites. There's alot of options for large hollow body swimbaits that paired with an Owner Beast 12/0 Swimbait Hook, will do the job wonderfully. |

Location: NW WI | Forget what I said about the single hook swimbait method. When I hear shallow river I think either slow and weedy or quick with loads of timber="SNAGS" for anything heavy with bottom trebles.
Don't butcher your rubbers, if you already own them, keep em for a different use, and maybe diversify your shallow bait portfolio with something hard, like a glide or a mini dragon chatter,or bucktails,or my favorite for your conditions-spinnerbaits.
Otherwise like in your other was said, try shallow dawgs/dusas. |

| I wish I could remember the details of a lure modification Greg Thomas made at a musky club seminar back over 10 years ago. He took a red October tube, added some Styrofoam he said he got from a fly tackle shop and while it still had some weight, ran much shallower. |

Wonder if the synthetic cork that comes in many wines would work. Something to check. I actually prefer the synthetic, no worry about a dry or crumbly cork. |

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | I have tried the wine cork method with a 7.5” tube and it worked really well. I used 2 corks, gave it way more hang and a lot more of a glide when you pop it
On other thing I’ve done well with fishing a small fast river is square bill cranks like a slammer or crane. Just like in bass fishing if you are going to be fishing around cover it seems like a square bill deflects off of it better and gives the bait a really erratic action. Cranes not so much but the great thing about slammers is they are super tough baits and not expensive at all by musky standards. Especially if you are fishing really shallow sections you can get those things through anything besides truly matted weeds once you get a feel for it. Other benefit over a glider or suick is that keep their action in heavier current. Especially with a glider you will notice that the heavier the current the worse they run usually |
