Has anyone used this reel? I have a Lexa 400 in the high speed model and like it. Looking to pick one of these up in the 5.3 gear for harder pulling baits. Not finding very many reviews from people who have actually used the reel. Company claims it was designed for musky fishing and I like the idea of a lighter reel with good power.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I ran the 5:3 all year, have yet to take it apart this winter so I can't speak much on wear. But it pulls the double willow "Willow Beast" and the 13/10 "Detonater" with ease. If anything it's a little too slow for those blades.
I prefer it over my Revo Toro Beast, it just seems to cast and retrieve sooo much smoother.

A friend bought 2 at the Milwaukee show so we’ll see how he likes them this season. I wish they weren’t purple!

I should mention that I really like my 400 Tranx (5.8?) for large blades. The 500 would certainly be better for speed and ease of retrieving but it is huge, and throws the rod balance imo. I’m sure the new Daiwa is a fine reel.

What advantages beside a higher gear ratio version.would this reel have over the tranx 400? I am.in the market for.a new reel and was going to buy another tranx 400, but this looks nice. Does it sit lower on the rod?

I love my Tranx 400's, but the Prorex casts better than any reel I've ever used. Just effortless, long casts every time. I put a full season on the middle gear one, and love the way it casts. I did have a couple of times where the line-guide (level wind) got stuck on one side, pulled off 20' of line, and it fixed itself. A scary little quirk for sure. I think it's human error (reeling and pushing the thumb bar slightly at the same time). Otherwise solid and so smooth.

I too was going to buy a Prorex but then the New Lexa TW came out. Same reel as the Prorex but with better bearings and 1 additional bearing. And it’s not purple. Bought a 6.3 and 8.1

Purchased the end of November so my first fishing with them will be our first Musky tournament the first of April.

I fiddled with one at the musky max and I'll tell you they're smooth as heck! I think they're smoother than my tranx was when new, even! plus i dig the purple

I purchased a 300 & 400 6.3 gear Lexa TW last year, and like them more than my Revo Toro's. One of my fishing partners bought a 5.3 Prorex last year also, and I was able to use it quite a bit to compare to the new Lexa's. The reels didn't have the same gear ratio, but they did feel very similar. I think the Lexa's may be a bit smoother, but it's close. They both cast really smooth, and the 5.3 gear Prorex brings in bucktails with little effort. My biggest problem with both models (HEAR THIS DIAWA), is the jigging handle as the only option. I IMMEDIATELY took them off of my Lexa's, and put a new double paddle, and counter balanced power handle from the older model Lexa 400 (same color handle as the new Lexa's) from Mat's Reel Repair. Much better now. I will be getting a 5.3 Prorex before the season starts, and swapping a 110 mm Tatula 300 double paddle handle on to it. The Prorex, and Lexa TW are definitely worth a try.

I did notice that the Prorex only comes with the one power handle. However, while I used to like oversized double paddles, I have some arthritis in my hands and now I find the large knob helps my hands feel better after a long day and when it is cold. Guess I don't grip as tight.

I bought one just before muskie opener last year and used it a lot. I bought the 7.1:1 reel. They are smaller than the other Diawa 400 size reels, of which I have three. The Prorex has a smaller spool and I got exactly 110 yds of 80 lb braided line on it when full. It cast smoother, quieter, and further than all other reels I have, including Diawa's, Abu's, and an Okuma. Because it cast so smooth, and because the spool is smaller, there's not much line left when I cast a couple of baits I have that fly like a bullet. All that said, I have too many reels as it is, but when the day comes that I buy another reel, I will get another Prorex. Best reel I have and I love it.

used two 7.1s last year alot. It fits my hand better then the tranx 400. My hand cramps when using the tranx on a no palming rod grip. Casts farther works great. Did have same problem as Masqui line would load up on one side. Then thumb bar would not return to up when starting to crank after cast. Took back to thornes asked to replace it. Service guy took it apart found nothing wrong .Cleaned and regreased and oil. works great! Bought a Lexa TW at show. same reel with more stainless parts

Is the Lexa TW the same size? Like the idea of better bearings but liked the feel of the Prorex in my hand. Have not held the Lexa TW.

The 400 Prorex is an offshoot of the 400 Lexa TW, and are the same reel, with a few differences in internal parts. The 300 Lexa TW is the same as the 400, except it is slightly narrower. The 300's tall, narrower spool with the T-Wing casts unbelievably well, and farther than the 400's.

Anyone know if it would be possible to buy a "lefty" LX-TW400HL-P and replace its gears with the "right handed" 5.3 ratio of the LX-TW400P-P?

I know the PROREX TWS 400PWRL-P is a "lefty" with the 5.3 ratio but the gear material is different, no?

I believe that the gears in both are brass, with the pinion in the TW's being SS, and the Prorex is brass or ?? The gears are probably interchangeable, since they are pretty much the same reel. Mat at Mats Reel Repair in Eagle River, WI is a factory authorized Diawa Repair Center, and would probably be able to answer any swap questions for you.
