Location: Northern Illinois | I'm a righty and have casted over my right shoulder my whole life. Last year though I started to get some tendon pain in my upper forearm/elbow and tried a little casting over my left shoulder instead. It doesn't put as much strain on my right elbow area, but it doesn't feel as natural to me. Which shoulder do you cast over? |

| Primarily my right, but if I'm out for more than a few hours I switch it up. The repetitive stress injuries have been adding up over the years... |

| Howdy,
I’m a hard lefty so I cast over my left shoulder, crank with my right hand, and the rod never leaves my left hand the entire time I’m fishing.

This. After 30 years fishing spinning gear prior to musky fishing, it's the only way I can cast. I've tried switching, but I felt like it was only a matter of time before I threw my rod in the lake or put a lure in the back of my head. |

I don't know either, my hands just do it. Kind of like I don't know how my fingers tie my shoes, they just do it on their own. |

| I can cast a bait caster both left or right handed and over head (back in the old days fishing three in 14 foot row boat I all way's took the center) Being a regular sized guy and one of my old 7 foot rods with tons of work maybe pitch a jig underhand.
Would not be pretty. |

| I am over 70 years old and have been musky fishing for 40 years most of those casting over my right shoulder and switching hands. With the new reels and 9 ft poles I have found switching to casting over my left shoulder much easier. I now cast over my left shoulder without switching hands as my normal approach but like the ability to cast either way on long days.

| Left handed but use right hand baitcasters. Cast over my left probably 80% of the time with some sidearm thrown in. I'll cast over my right if the situation calls for it but that's pretty rare. |

| Both. Best move I've ever made learning to cast with either hand. For 35 years I've been able to fish right or left hand reels with out having to switch hands during the cast. The leaning curve took about a full season to be proficient throwing left or right handed but it was worth it.

| I'm a righty, and learned to cast with my right, and switch mid-air to reel right. After a couple years I learned to cast left and prefer that now. For heavy lures, or real accurate casts, I tend to use the right still though. I pitch, flip, and skip with my right too. |
