Howdy,

New to the forum, been a long-time Musky chaser, but only with a fly rod and this year I want to start using gear as well.

Looking for a braided line option and throughout numerous searches, cannot seem to find anything current regarding folks favorite lines.

I fish 100-150 days a year so I wanted to buy a larger spool so I could swap the line out a time of two over the season, so was hoping to get it "right" the first time as the stuff isn't cheap. I have quite a bit of experience fishing baitcasters for Bass and have always used Sufix 832, but before I ordered some of that, thought I may seek the input of more experienced Musky guys.

Has anyone tried the Sufix 131? Any real advantage over the 832?

I was also looking at the Cortland MasterBraid, Tuf Line XP and Tuf Line Enforcer 8X.

Thus far the bronze colored MasterBraid is what I was leaning towards, but not sure if that would be the best choice in line color and have no experience with MasterBraid, the lakes I will be on are crystal clear, like you can see the bottom in 40' or more of water so line color is also something I was wondering about.

Anyway, any thoughts, insight or whatnot anyone would be willing to offer would truly be appreciated.

Thank you
Kirby Budrow

You'll be happy with 832. I prefer Masterbraid myself. I use 80 and 100 depending on the bait selection.

I liked the 832 better than Power Pro because it seemed to hold less water after it had been used for a while. Not having used Masterbraid, wondering what's it's advantages are. Frankly, all the super braids are so good, probably can't go wrong but do wonder about small advantages of one over the other.

I like Masterbraid and 832. I use the bronze Masterbraid most of the time. I have never considered muskies to be line shy. I guess I could be mssing fish because of this. Modern braids can last multiple seasons just watch for fraying especially when fishing rocks and logs.

*Grand Slam #80- Seemed to me like I was breaking on snags far too easy, and it was breaking at mid line out too, not at the knot. Totally possible I wasn't seeing damage and that's the reason. But after reading reviews on it seems like a love/hate verdict which makes me wonder if there's some poor Quality Control at play. So I removed it.
*BUCHER BEAST BRAID #80 TANIC BROWN- seems decent, only complaint is that the pigment shedded instantly and covered my hands, reel, and rod in Brown crud.
*SPIDER WIRE INVISIBRAID #80- Tough stuff surprisingly, I never took a caliper to it or looked it up but I'm certain it's outer diameter is wider than most. I actually like it but the whole "Invisi-whatever" I believe is false. It's just white line, and I started getting concerned because it seemed like I was just doing terrible with it. Could be just coincidence granted. So stopped using it.
*Power Pro & 832- totally happy with both, if I had to pick one of them,I'd go with the 832.
*Masterbraid-going to try it for the first time this year in #100lb, so we'll see.

I really like masterbraid. The other line I have used and really like is power pro maxcuatro. It is super thin, 80lbs maxcuatro is thinner than most companies 65 so it’s great for a lighter setup if your throwing smaller baits. Never really liked the other power pros but 832 and seaguar smack down are both great lines as well

another vote for cortland masterbraid. 832 is good as well in my experience. If you go with powerpro I would really recommend 100lbs. test because its very inconsistent and unreliable. Some people swear by powerpro and others get a spool full of garbage line and find out the hard way with break offs.

I use Spiderwire Stealth and 832 in various tests (50-100) on different combos, but honestly, I’d spend more time thinking about fish locations, presentations, weather, boat maintenance, seasonal patterns, etc, etc, before worrying too much on line brands. They all are adequate and from my experience need some time to “break in” so they cast Really good. Tie up some fluoro leaders for that clear water but when a fish wants to eat it will eat even if your line is orange.
