Hello!

Just wanted to make a post talking about Muskie boxes and which ones people use. I’ve been looking at the Lakewood Monster Box that can fit 100 lures, along with other features, but for $300, I’m not sure it’s worth. I’ve also seen tackle boxes like the Plano Maximizer which also claims it holds 100 lures, but it’s just a box with no other side compartments.

I don’t know. Just wanted opinions and thoughts on the topic.

Thanks for reading.

I have both, and I like the Lakewood a lot better. I think it's worth 3X the price.

Maybe I'm not being creative enough, but it's hard to fit rubber baits bigger than mag dawgs in the plano. Also, if you have a cooler and the Lakewood in the back of your boat, it's like adding a bunch of space to your rear casting deck.

I was in the same position as you. Financially afraid to take that investment. Took the first dive with the monster. Now have a monster,3 mediums,1 junior. I have nowhere to hang baits that aren't on deployment so hence all the boxes. Plus for the moment the mediums organized for night, spring, and fall. Monster is general purpose. Junior for Kayak. The extra zippered pouches are super nice for storing your extra terminal, trailers, leaders, toilet paper, etc.

Yeah, I’m thinking that that is what I might end up doing too lol.

I went cheap and regret it. I’ll get a Lakewood eventually.

I have no room for monster anything in my boat. I bring about 60 baits in a milk crate with plastic downspouts cut to fit inside it. If I can't get the job done with 60 baits, time to go perch fishing. I gave a Flambeau Maximizer I bought 20 years ago to my oldest son. It was great for another person to sit on in the boat.

After having a monster, I much prefer the Cabela’s advanced angler bags over Lakewood. I have my monster to store some rubber, but I got tired of drying it out in the rain. Takes days to dry. The Cabela’s bags have rain covers…. Swap in 3700’s for where you’re going or time off year. I have the magnum and super magnum. Super is the size of a monster.

I own a big Lakewood. Replaced the zipper twice in the first 8 years I owned it. Now, it's broken again. While there are certainly features about the Lakewood that I like, the lid closure is an issue. Replacing zippers is a pain, and a lid that doesn't close doesn't bode well for wind/rain. I'm still using it, but am looking at alternatives.

After trying probably every commercial box system in the past 40 years I keep going back to the milk crate and downspout. I lay a square of plastic from a kids Krazy Karpet in the bottom before adding the downspout to keep hooks from catching. Baits dry well rain goes in the top and out the bottom. I restrict myself to 25 baits and don't try to cram in extras usually use about 4.

I had a Flambeau Maximizer and a big Plano, but now I use the big Special Mate box. I really like how versatile it is. I also like the versatility of the Lakewood spinnerbait box.

These:

Big one for big baits, next size down for cranks, jerks, and short hairs. The dividers are removable so you can take a few out to make room for odd shaped lips and such.

I've gone to Just Encase boxes both deck and carry ons. Bob will build what you want to your specs.

I’m also a fan of the Cabela’s advance angler bag.
