So I've torn apart all my boxes, replaced and sharpened all hooks that required doing so, dabbled in making some buck tails, spent endless hours on the internet, cleaned and re-spooled all my reels, bought and made adjustments to new baits........... I'm running out of things to do!

Hows everyone else coping through the hard water season?

Hard water fishing!

Don't limit yourself to the big boys, get out there and wet a line - any way you can!

Ice fishing. Though it was pretty hard to adjust to flinging big Jakes with 80# line to spring bobbing tiny jigs on 1# line. Still, this is downtime and I can hardly wait till the muskie opener. Already making plans to hit Lake St. Clair with some local nuts. Wish I could do the Cave Outing, but that's not to be for me this year.

I can't take the winter anymore, can't wait for the ice to thaw. I think I've simply run out of things to do except for surfing the net...

I wish someone would come out with a Musky game for XBox.

It's starting to get to me too....sharpened some hooks this morning, put some twister tails and new hooks on baits, then went to the rod/reel repair shop (Coren's off Raven/NW Highway is the best around) to have 2 rods fixed, one butt extended 2", and 4 reels fixed. Come open water, I'll be ready!
Right now I have a bottle of Jack's and the Cabela's catalog next to me....what a great Valentine's Night for the single guy!

Tryed the ice fishing thing a few years ago. Had great results, but simply just didn't enjoy it.

LOL it's funny we all go through this every year, but each year its like its a whole new torture that we have never been through before.

You'd think we'd have it figured out by know wouldn't you!?!?!

There's always lure building. A quick visit to the Stamina Catalog will get you busy!

I had a classic case of winter time blues this weekend. I layed out all my baits by type (glider, jerk, crank, etc..), inventoried them by name and color, and took digital pictures of them. Who knows it might be valuable someday if the insurance agent does not believe what was in my stolen box.

This winter I've built leaders, quick strike rigs and am now working on
some bucktails. I usually go back and read my collection of books over
each winter. The winter is tough but I try not to wish away time because
it goes too fast as it is. Spring will be here soon.

Another thing I began doing back in '99 was keeping an outdoor observation
journal. I record the first 70 degree day, the day our pond ice goes out, animal visitors to our feeders and property, return of the redwing blackbirds, etc. It's interesting to watch for these events and compare them to the past few years.

Yep, make Lures. It is fun and satisfying. Get out the catalogs and buy some more! Start planning excuses to take your days off for fishing.

If the temp hits 40 you better get out to the local Steelhead river!
Looks promising for this Friday here. I'll be getting out the waders for sure.
