| Is the universal sonar any good on the auto pilot? Any interference? Are they replaceable? Anybody feel free to share experiences, good or bad. The sonar puck I have on my bow now is glassed in at the front drain and I haven't had any complaints. You boat riggers out there, which is a better option? Thanks, Matt |

Location: Kawartha Lakes Region, Ontario, Canada | I run universal sonar in my boat and the wiring for the transducer on the trolling motor is completely sealed in the shaft of the motor. Not only does this protect it from abraison underwater, but also above water when your trolling motor is raised, it's one less slack line bouncing about waiting to have something get caught on it.
Haven't had any problems with interference what so ever. Auto Pilot is a feture that is like air conditioning in your car, once you buy one with it, you just can never get one again without it. Just point in the direction you want the boat to travel, push the button, and she'll stay on course! Great for working weedlines, or any other structure, but also for holding postion in a wind or current.
One tip is make sure you get a slightly longer shaft than you think you are going to need. In choppy water, you want the option of lowering the unit further down into the water because once the unit breaks the surface of the water in Auto Pilot mode, it throws off the internal compass calibration and you loose your set heading.

I've installed hundreds of them and I've never heard of anyone needing to replace them.
You are still going to have the same KH as any other ducer so you will possibly have an issue with interference, but no more than you would strapping one on the bottom.

Location: Minnetonka , MN. | I have one but I don't have the auto pilot I have a Maxxum and love it so far. Only wish I would have gotten the X15 and not the X87.I still might upgrade to the X15 if it can use the same transducer. |
