Location: Port Severn, Georgian Bay, Ontario | At this time, I use 1/16" ( 1.5mm ) tig welding stainless steel rods for making inline spinners. I wish to make some safety pin style spinner baits. It seems to me that 1/16" may not be stiff enough for this style of bait construction. Has anyone out there tried using thick stainless steel bicycle spokes? These type of spokes seem to be available in a local bicycle shop in 1.8mm and 2.0mm sizes. To start, I will prototype my baits by using egg sinkers instead of doing any lead casting. Any ideas on this from some of you big wire bait makers? |

Location: Sheboygan Falls, WI | I know you wouldn't be the first to use them. I have never tried it but I have seen baits made with them. I personally use .065 stainless, anything bigger than that and I have to mess around too much with the clevises, beads, and bodies of my baits to get them to fit. |

Location: In the slop! | Those sizes will work, but like eggy said, you will have problems finding components. I use .062 and .071 (the same as 1.8mm) and have to drill a lot of beads. Also depending on how you bend the wire for your loops, that heavy of wire gets pretty hard to work with. Good luck! |
