Looking to get a league started up next summer in this area (between EauClaire and Rice Lake in geography).

I would like to mirror the tues Rhinelander leauge in format.
It appears it was a very well run leauge and participation was good.

Rhinelander boys, could you send me ...or post...the rules and reg's?
Is there anything you would do different that could be improved..if anything?

EauClaire boys..what say you?
Lets do this!!

Two boat teams, subs allowed.

Schedule of lakes is released at the beginning f the season.

Point schedule for the fish caught, must have fish witnessed by another team. Release only.

Fish 5PM to 9PM.

Cash awarded for biggest fish and most fish. Entry dependant on payout. Configure entry for payout and number of teams registered.

Points carry through for each two boat team for final standings. Banquet at the end of the season, which was fun. Norm, what else am I forgetting?

Greg,

I am interested.  Gives me a reason to fish more during the week.

Sworral, it is my understanding that you have sponsors for the teams, i.e. local business's correct?

You have your choice of 2-3 lakes any given week?

How does the money work..pay so much per week, or is it a one time fee, then go for total points at the end of the year?

Just things I heard about your league that I wanted to clarify.

How many teams did you folks have over there last season?

Only a couple things that I see missing Steve. One is participation points. Second is the Top Gun award. Top Gun money was supplied through money that wasn't given out weekly. We did not need to register fish with a league boat either, makes the release way quicker if you can have some perch jerkers right next to you witness the release. I think the point values are the same as the Hodag point system. It was 20 points for a legal release and 2 points every 1/4 inch after. Points really weighed heavy for big fish.

You might want to email MRoberts or Oneida Esox on the entire rules, I am sure either one can email them to you in their entirety. John is in Hawaii right now so if you want them right away you will have to get them from Mike. If you need his addy give me an email.

Greg,
Each team had to have a sponsor, the sponsor kicked in x amount of dollars for the team. We offered participation points to encourage everyone to stop at the sponsors business to by a burger and a beverage to recoup there portion of the fee.

Then each participant had to kick in an additional amount (you can get these amounts from Mike or John, I can't recall them right now). Then subs paid also if they fished and that qualified them for all weekly prizes.

No one was going to get rich in this league, I think weekly prizes were 50,30,20 but the competition was fun and so are the bragging rights. Aint that right Steve!

Greg,
Couple more things I can remember of the top of my head.

Points where awarded 10 for a legal fish and 1 for every ½ inch over legal. If the fish is released alive the points are doubled.

Also attendance points where awarded each night 1 point per each person on the 4 man team, if all 4 team members are there the team gets a bonus of 1 point. The points are given to get people to go to the sponsor bar after the fishing. Also a 50$ attendance prize is given out each night to get people to the bar. We tried it one year with out the points and it seemed like less people came out after the fishing.

Prizes where given out each night to the 3 largest fish $50, $25 and I believe $10, and then also the attendance prize. Any fish money that isn’t awarded because of lack of fish is place in the Big Fish/ Top Gun pool. At the end of the year the guy with the most points and the largest fish split that pool.

Each team member pays $50 to fish the 10 week schedule and then each team gets a sponsor, the sponsor fee is $75. The sponsor’s are usually bars and then each night of league we schedule the awards stuff at one of the sponsor bars. That’s the reason to try and get people to go to the bar after fishing, so the sponsors can make there money back. They usually do I believe.

Last year we had nine teams and we fished the 5 lake groups of the Hodag musky challenge. Hitting each group twice in the 10 weeks. With a bonus week, on Lake Tomahawk, where big fish would have been given out, but no points for the week.

There are also rules for subs and other things, drop Oneida an email I think he has all the rules on his computer.

Nail A Pig!

Mike

cool, thx guys!
So if I read that right, you have 4 guys (2 boats) per team..with 9 teams, you had 36 fisherman?

Jono/Fred...do you think we could get 36 guys?

Attendance points might be tough, esp since taverns are quite spread out in that area and some might have an hour to drive back home if our "entertainmant facilities" are too far apart.

always fun planning...maybe we could get a large number of First Wis Muskies Inc. to do this??

Hi Greg. I would think between First WI guys and others in the area we should be able to get it going. We will have to be sure to mention it at meetings. If you can't make them, Greg, let me know and I'll help get the word out.

Greg,

I doubt we can get 36 but I think we can get enough interest to do something.  We will probably have to treak the rules depending on how many people are interested.  Are you coming to the banquet on Sat. night? We can discuss it there and look for peple who are interested.

Fred, if it's this sat nite, nope...I will be in Mineapolis at the big boat show tomorrow through sunday.

Jono, that would be great if you could spread the word. Meetings for me are about impossible this time of year....didnt realize that when I was nominated.....srry about that.

Make sure to get some kids or women involved as well ask Steve and Norm what place they'd have finished without the two beauties caught by the outstanding female anglers on their team!! Dave J I was thinking of getting sponsored by a Hooters team this year!!
