Hi,

I have a couple old favorite rods that need new guides/wraps, and due to the fact that my friend Ryan Jinkerson is no longer doing it, I need someone to do it for me.  I have an older St. Croix 7'6" that needs all new guides and have a Lamiglass fig 8 special that needs a couple guides and tip.

feel free to email me at [email protected]

Thanks,

Jason Schillinger

Jason,

Easterlings in West Allis(Milwaukee) does a decent job. Used the same thread and guides as St. Croix on a couple of my rods last year. 414-259-3907.

Another idea is to learn to do it yourself? The materials can be purchased on-line. Cabela's has a TackleCraft catalog with a section devoted to rod building/repair.

I'm sure there will be somebody in your neck of the woods who does this also. I'm sure someone will know who.

Jason-

I take my stuff to a place in Portage, WI called DW Sports. He has a friend of his who loves to do that kind of stuff and charges, for the most part, materials only. I have had a couple eyelets replaced that once done you couldn't tell from original. Might want to look them up if you don't mind the trip down.

If you are in the Chicago area Coren's Rod & Reel does that type of work I think.

Twin Cities, Thorne Bros will do a great job and customize the rod with your name or nickname as well.

I vote for doing it yourself. Of course I have made some rods so it is a natural choice. It is not hard and a first timer can do a very good job. Get a book out of the library (free) then buy some guides on eBay (under $10) Flex-coat (light 2 part epoxy), a spool of rod wrapping thread and you are in business. The old guides come off pretty easy with a sharp exacto knife. Cut the threads and peel them off the rod.

Thought about doing it myself, but only for a minute or two while on my way ice fishing.  If I have a spare hour, I'm on the ice this time of year(or doing some sort of wife project).  I have enough other bait tinkering/reel rebuilding/leader making things to do.  I will look up some of those dudes, and thanks much!!!
