| Finally got out musky fishing on a central MN lake yesterday afternoon and it paid off! It has been tough for me to get out this year, as I have been finishing up grad school this summer and this was my first time hitting a lake for muskies this year! Yikes!
On to the report.....we started out the day fishing a couple spots that proved unproductive, and then moved to windblown points, weedlines, and bars, and it was game on for the last 2 hours of daylight. Buddy had a hot follow from a low 40 inch fish that nearly ate on the 8 while throwing big blades, and then had another follow from an upper 40s class fish shortly after. Shortly after that, I hooked and lost an upper 30 inch fish on a Pacemaker, and then in the last hour of daylight I found some redemption. On a loooonnnnnng cast towards a weedline with the Pacemaker, I got slammed quite a ways out. The fish caught me so off balance I actually fell onto the boat seat behind me after setting the hook. The musky immediately proceeded to leap straight up in into the air, and I could see it was not hooked well. As it got closer to the boat, I could see there was only 1 hook pinned in the fish's mouth, and my buddy scooped it with the net just as the hook popped out. Quick measurement and release on a nice 43.5 inch musky made my day! With about an hour of daylight left, that was the end of our musky action for the night. All action came near shallower weeds in 8-12 fow on topwater choppers and blades.
