Location: Zimmerman | Just purchased a Helix 9 and now need to figure out a mount. Have looked at a ram D size ball and arm mount and a ram swing arm mount. Any thoughts on either of them or other mounts. Going on a Lund explorer 1800 ss. Thanks. |

Location: Chisholm, MN | I use the ram ball mount and wish I would have gone a different route. It’s not very stable in rough water and I don’t dare trailer it. I don’t know what other brand to go with but that’s my experience. |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Cisco fishing system and be done with it. Can rotate similar to a ram, but can adjust the tension so it doesn’t move. I run mine backwards so I can angle the screen flatter for viewing above. Lever in the front makes more sense to me as well.

Location: Hayward WI | I just mounted a Helix 9 on a swing arm mount at the console. I don't think the swing arm with have the issues of loosening up like the ball mounts. |

Location: NE Ohio | CISCO electronics mount. buy it once and have it a lifetime. even if you move up in unit size!
NO problems with movement trailering or roughest water. the only time mine move is when i want them too. i run helix 10's on mine and i wouldn't be afraid to run 15's! |

| The D size ram ball is solid, you can put a wrench on the wing nut or you can take the wing nut off and replace with a standard nut and use a socket wrench to tighten it. You can tighten it till you deform the ball, I am 260 pounds and have literally stood on my sonar mounted on a ram ball mount to sight fish spawning bass. And it doesn't move, vibrate or jiggle sure but if it ain't round it can't move. |

| I've been trying to figure out what to mount my Helix 8 with. I have a 2008 Pro Guide, so it has the old style compartment for the electronics, like the Pro V tillers had. I would like an articulating mount, that I could pull/rotate out of the compartment, to get it a little closer and to make sure the GPS works because with the internal GPS antenna, I'm not sure it will work well inside the compartment. I'm not able to tell if any of the ones I've been looking at, will work in there. almost have to order them, try them, and return. Don't want to do that. Might just have to mount on top, and disconnect and put away each time. You might like some of the ones I've found, for your application.

Location: plant earth | I use the lock down mount from Bass Pro Shop & Cabelas like TCESOX mentioned above. The others are nice but a bit pricey. I use two of them one on the bow & another for the console they hold my elite 12's rock solid. I caught a deal on them @ $79 each. would defiantly buy again. Had ram swing arm mounts on my last boat those are a great option too. The cisco mounts look great i'm going to keep them in mind

| FWIW....
12 inch Helix on a Balzout Mount with a 10 inch arm. I will loosen it to put the cover on in May when I go to Leech. I will tighten it back up when I return and it will not move until I loosen it again. Hopefully September and Canada if not December. Two years on my boat which has 300+ hours and its a champ....
I will never buy another Ram Mount for fishing electronics the way they are currently manufactured . There are so many better options out there.

Yes, I just bought one for my Helix 9 and you can fully unscrew the 2 sections for easy install, storage, etc. I unscrewed the arm from the main base (part connected to boat) during install and that made it really easy.
Or simply remove the head unit from the graph bracket as well.

Location: Madtown, WI | I've never liked the ram mounts, for something I rarely want to adjust it requires a lot of adjusting as it bounces around. I reluctantly put one on the console but on the bow I have a johnny ray, seems to work really well with my helix 8. |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | I would pay good money to see someone at 260 standing on a finder. Can we test this when the water is 35 degrees? The ram will slip, the case will break, and the angler goes in the water. I’ve never seen any ram mounts NOT slip. Wrench, no wrench, hair spray on the balls, cleaning the sockets with isopropyl alcohol, nothing keeps them from moving. The neoprene will hold for about 6 months, but once it cracks, there goes all stability. Ask any guide that fishes any reasonable size water if they run ram mounts and why they don’t.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I have an Aqua-Vu and two sonars on Ram mounts. No issues going into the 3rd season. They don't slip, need adjustment, or bother me in any way. Lifetime warranty, too.
This is a perfect example of a preference for a product determined by actual use. My application works great because I have a smaller boat, smaller sonars, and don't fish big water. I could have spent over $300, but spent about $150. Since I don't need to spend the larger amount for my ride, I didn't, and am quite happy with the product.

| This afternoon I picked up my boat after having an Ulterra and Helix 9 mounted on the bow. They replaced the smaller Ram mount I had on there with a 5" Lowrance with a much sturdier and larger Ram mount designed for 8-12" Helix. Sure seems sturdy to me. |

| Well, after measuring the space around where I wanted to mount my Helix 8, and taking my tape measure to a couple different places and checking out all of the mounts I could find, I still wasn't really sure, so I made a cardboard mock-up of my compartment. I took it to the stores, and actually tried all the different mounts. It looked like I would have to settle for taking the head off to stow it, as none seemed to articulate enough, to let me stow it with the head on. I decided to go with the one that came very close to working in my cardboard mock-up. Plus, it was one of the sturdiest and really could be locked in. Imagine how happy I was, when I installed it, it actually allowed me to stow, without taking the head unit off! Just barely. The Ballzout was the one that worked. There were four others that I thought were very good, but didn't quite come close enough to doing what I wanted them to do.
