What size do you guys like the best? Was thinking about getting a 6 and 7.5" bait.

7.5” is my favorite and I’m someone who likes to throw smaller versions of baits more often than not...

Give me Double 8’s, Regular sized dawgs, the fat bastard and 6” jakes or 7” grandmas all day long....??

6" in spring, 7.5 and 10" in summer and fall. I use the 10" mostly for open water and 7.5 for above weeds as it runs shallower.

I haven't thrown any bigger than the 6 inch size, I like it, but I sure prefer the hellhound over the phantom. Anyone could glide a hellhound!

7.5" is my favorite. Seems like just about the perfect size for a glidebait, in my opinion

I've caught more fish on the 6 inch, but larger fish on the 7.5 inch, but I also prefer the Hellhound.

Hellhounds > Phantoms in my opinion

I think quite a few of us agree with that!

I like the squirrelly ones . My most productive color variation is the white widow.

Thanks for the info! Hellhounds apparently need to be considered.

Is the squirrely version 9 inches in terms of body or is it body + tail?

I believe its 6.75" plus 2.25" tail . Personally the ones with the tail have better action and it is easier to work them. I usually do a double twitch pause / triple twitch pause / once closer to me I like to do oval instead of an 8 with small twitches and pauses

since we are now contrasting HH and phantom I will throw out my ideas. I use these is different conditions, the HH is more or an erratic jerkbait in my opinion. I work HHs fast and they jump side to side up and down. I use small phantoms more in cold front conditions and get more action working them slow and methodically.

I fish both Hellhounds and Phantoms but I find most success with Phantoms and they are my go to jerk baits. I fish both 6 and and 7.5 with equal success. In the spring dont overlook downsizing and use the 4" Phantom. They can be killers

No way a hellhound touches a Todd Cleveland era phantom softail. After Todd left Phantom they went to junk. That’s why their closing shop. 7.5 is my favorite.

I prefer the 6” phantoms but if I’m getting follows but no strikes I’ll switch to the HH

6" phantom by far, old 6" phantoms have put 100's in the net over the years as a "spring" bait for me, by mid-June I begin to basically stop throwing gliders...years of result just confirm summer and fall there are better baits to catch big fish..especially fall..big rubber and cranks just consistently put bigger fish in my boat, but that a different topic..on the rare times I do want to throw a phantom in the fall I'll reach for the 7.5" ..

The phantom takes a little more slack line in the twitch than the heckhound. It works really well like that. Both are great baits. If the water was rough and could not see the bait well to work i would throw a heckhound, it has an easier more consistent glide.

But have you tried the 10" in summer and fall? I have found this to be one of my top producers during these times. I will agree late fall to ice up I go all in on rubber though.

I use 6 & 7.5. The 6 are a little ore nimble and seem to work better in choppy water. The 7.5 is my go to size more often than not
